So I am tryin this liquid diet the surgeon said would be BEST at 4 weeks. On here most people said the first four days were the worst. I am on day 3 and found it bearable. Sat and watched people eat and everything...until my bf and his nephew just ate dinner. It hit me and I actually wanted to cry. 24 more days of this? This is torture. Why couldn't I get the diets I read on here where I get to eat a sensible dinner??? This is going to be a long 24 days....

I understand how you are feeling although I have not been through what you've been asked to do. I read about an idea I am planning to do when I want to eat things I shouldn't eat and/or times I shouldn't. It's called a "tip jar." The goal is to place slips of paper inside the jar each suggesting activities that will redirect attention to a non-food activity. They could be things like walking outside and picking up 5 leaves, or go through your jewelry, or maybe calling a fun person that is due a visit? The goal is to quickly divert one's attention from food to an activity.

You can do this - you are strong - your destiny is to be healthy. Breathe. :)

Is this a 4 wk pre op diet? Wow. never heard of 1 that long. I actually have just 24 hrs of Clear liquids before surgery. Thank God. 4 weeks of liquids afterwards will be enuf for me.

Keep you eye on the prize. Focus your thinking on a, say, size 6 pair of jeans. If necessary, buy a size 6 pair of jeans (Goodwill is good for this) and hang them on your bedroom door. Everyday you can wish yourself into those jeans. I did that with a tank top from the week before I had my lapband. By the time I tried it on when I thought it might fit (16 mths later), it was too big!

You can do this!

Patti, I was on 3 - 4 Protein shakes (low carb/low fat) plus low calorie liquids (st Jello, popsicles, broth) for two weeks. I dealt with it by keeping as busy as possible. I didn't allow myself the option of cheating so I wasn't tormented by the "will I / won't I" every day...hope that makes sense. I considered it a challenge I put to myself, not something imposed arbitrarily on me. This helped me wrap my head around it. It also helped knowing that by following the pre-op diet I was decreasing the likelihood of complications. I exercised a lot during that time determined to be as strong as possible going into surgery. It worked. I had no complications and a speedy recovery. Good luck.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. The Doc said that the program does a minimum 2 week liquid diet (to be started the day of PAT because they do that 2 wks before, but he said that in my case (I guess because of my size -currently 429 before liquids) that 3 weeks woyld be better and 4 weeks would be best. I also am not giving myself the option of cheating. This post was my diversion to not focus on the meal my bf prepared for his nephew and himself. Thanks for helping me through!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
