I JUST got through reading an article about this! I am losing hair by the handfuls! I am 3 months post op. You can read the article here. It explains how Hair loss is natural, what to expect and why it happens after WLS. www.slhn.org/docs/pdf/bariatric_surgery_and_hair_loss.designed.pdf

Judging from previous posts, most people lose some amount of hair afterwards. I lost lots of it. I didn't get too concerned, because it is a temporary condition.

Laura-

When did yours start & has it stopped? I already have horribly thin hair!

Mine started at 4 months out.. It got kind of scary for a while there because there was so much coming out everyday in the shower!

I knew it would happen, my surgeon even has you read and sign a form acknowledging that you understand that this will happen.

But it didn't make it easier.

It slowed down or stopped at around six months.

I seem to be the one who noticed the most.

Well except for my family getting sick of seeing it everywhere! But they say it doesn't look much different on my head..

It's still a bit thin I think but getting better...

I have really long hair so I don't think that helps.

I will say that I had planned on getting those exfusion hair fibers if it got bad, but it never came to that point.

What was your question again?? :P

My Hair loss also became noticeable at four months. I am at six months now, and still have some hair loss, but I am thinking positive that it will subside at some point. The above replies give me hope. :)

Thank you, Laura! I purchased 2 different hair fibers, I'm taking extra Biotin & now I'm looking for a shampoo....I can't decide if I should go with Nioxin or Bosley?

Add in more zinc.

I just tried a zinc capsule today and been in terrible pain since taking it. I know there is different kinds of zinc ( mine was zinc cholate). What are the safe tummy friendly kinds to take?

Try vitamelts zinc it melts on your tongue. I also crush my pills even though it tastes horrible its better than being stuck. 2 years of stuck episodes with the lapband I am traumatized.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
