Bodybuilding in Atlanta

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the forums and am loving the community and the help everyone gives. I'm 34 year old black male and was 497 at my largest and 493 at the time of my surgery on last Wednesday 7/3/13. After I came out of anesthesia all I thought was I can't believe I did this to myself on purpose. The pain was intense but now things are so much better. I'm able to get enough liquid and my stomach seems to handle a good level of broth with no issue. I'm really interested in amateur bodybuilding. It's a dream of mine and I want to start out on the right foot. So if anyone has info on how to start off on the right foot I in that direction I would love to hear from you. How is bodybuilding after the sleeve different than doing it without the sleeve?

I am doing amateur body building and hopefully some physique modeling and it's pretty much the same as pre sleeve just diet and exercise. The sleeve controls how much but you still control what you eat...

Thanks big country. So how much have you lost? And did you just focus on losing weight at first then building muscle? Or did you try to keep the muscle you already had when you were big?

I focused on losing weight first and when I got down to a comfy weight I started lifting.

Congratulations Seth!

I'm in the Pre-Op stages and I too thought about Amatuer body building, but not the kind where I'll look like a man. Lol. My goal is to get as fit as possible to live a full active fun life!

If you'd like someone to share your successes with....I'm here. :-)

Lorayne

P.s. I have no idea why my pic is coming out upside down. :-/

Bigcountry that's awesome man, solid work.

For bodybuilding in a larger, drug free weight class, Protein intake with diet and lifting, with hard work and dedication is what it takes. Consistency. Every day, busting it in the gym. You can get there and make it happen, just be strict and consistent in your craft.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
