Too restricted for liquids??

Recommended Posts

I had my 3 week post-op appointment today. It's already time for a fill! My dietician told me that occasionally, usually after about 3 fills, some people get TOO restricted and can't even drink liquids. At that point, I am to call the doctor immediately. I'll do that if necessary, but just wanted to know if anyone has actually experienced that? Scares me!! Hopefully my first fill will just restrict me enough that I can start a steady weight loss.

imtorb,

I had a too tight fill and I was throwing up Water and my own saliva.

After you have a fill they usually and should make you stay at the doctors office and drink some Water. I knew right then and there that I need to have some taken out and I was going back and I let the doctor talk me out of it, saying that the barium was going down fine. Well I left ... always listen to your instincts they are right. I got in my car and had some water and it had a hard time going down.

I suffered for three days .... lost 10lbs from my lack of being able to keep anything down and in the end all of my Fluid had to removed because I was swollen from the tight fill and all the throwing up.

I hope I did not scare you too much .... I guess what I am trying to say is listen to your body it knows and ALWAYS, ALWAYS speak up if even water is having a hard time going down.

Good luck with your first fill.

Great post Michele! You're right ... we need to LISTEN TO OUR BODIES! Sorry to hear that you had a hard time and I hope you're doing better now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
