danii 2 Posted July 7, 2013 I have a viral infection with a cough that is driving me insane. I stayed away from anyone who was sick in the last few weeks but it hasnt helped!! Is there something I can do? Will my surgery go ahead tomorrow afternoon? Has anyone else had this problem? Im stress worrying about them cancelling it but I understand if they do its for my own safety
Shelle 11 Posted July 7, 2013 Hon if you are coughing and have a virus you dont want to have surgery. You could get pneumonia plus coughing would be awful with the incisions. It is not good to undergo anesthesia if you are ill. Hope you feel better soon.
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted July 7, 2013 I had a severe cold the morning of my surgery and did fine. I did ask if I could take meds and was allowed Tylenol up to the morning of surgery but don't follow in my foot steps without asking first. The doctor wasn't worried about my cough at all. In fact, he said the cough would help me clear out my lungs faster but I can tell you, it didn't feel good at all. I will say I was on the backside of the cold when I went in, so that was a plus, but call in the morning and explain. You may be fine, you may have to push it off for a few days. Either way, your health is of utmost importance and your surgeon will make the right decision for you.

danii 2 Posted July 7, 2013 Do you have fever? I think that will be he Drs first question. No fever just went for my pre op blood thinning injection in the thigh. All is going ahead providing I dont get worse tonight I will be getting done up to aneathitist though if my lungs are clear all is well they said my coughing may be more uncomfortable but the cough will aid in keeping the pneumonia away 1 NoneYa reacted to this

LipstickLady 25,682 Posted July 7, 2013 You will be absolutely fine. Take a small firm pillow to hold against your tummy so that you have it when you need to cough and on the way home. It helps a LOT.
