help im sick.. surgery is tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

I have a viral infection with a cough that is driving me insane. I stayed away from anyone who was sick in the last few weeks but it hasnt helped!!

Is there something I can do? Will my surgery go ahead tomorrow afternoon? Has anyone else had this problem? Im stress worrying about them cancelling it but I understand if they do its for my own safety

Hon if you are coughing and have a virus you dont want to have surgery. You could get pneumonia plus coughing would be awful with the incisions. It is not good to undergo anesthesia if you are ill. Hope you feel better soon.

I had a severe cold the morning of my surgery and did fine. I did ask if I could take meds and was allowed Tylenol up to the morning of surgery but don't follow in my foot steps without asking first.

The doctor wasn't worried about my cough at all. In fact, he said the cough would help me clear out my lungs faster but I can tell you, it didn't feel good at all. I will say I was on the backside of the cold when I went in, so that was a plus, but call in the morning and explain. You may be fine, you may have to push it off for a few days. Either way, your health is of utmost importance and your surgeon will make the right decision for you.

No fever just went for my pre op blood thinning injection in the thigh. All is going ahead providing I dont get worse tonight I will be getting done up to aneathitist though if my lungs are clear all is well they said my coughing may be more uncomfortable but the cough will aid in keeping the pneumonia away

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
