6 days post surgery and I feel hungry. First day I have felt this way since surgery. I hate Protein Shakes and sooo tired of Popsicles and broth. I've heard of head hunger but this feels like regular old I need to eat hunger. Seems like forever before I will have food again. Need some encouragement and advice from my fellow sleevers.

Are you allowed yogurt yet? Everyone varies, but I was able to satisfy the "hunger" with Greek yogurt and thicker Protein Shakes (blend 'em up with ice and milk!) until I was allowed to progress to soft foods.

I was released from the hospital on full fluids which included Soups that you could blend up, strain out the chunks, and eat the rest.

i made my shakes thicker too and that made me feel fuller. Hang in there..because as soon as you can start to eat pureed and soft foods you will not be hungry. Also..it is a proven fact that often when you "feel" hungry--your brain is trying to tell you that you need Water. Try drinking more water, see if that helps ya a bit till you can eat.

Sometimes "hunger" is actually excess stomach acid. Are you taking a proton pump inhibitor (PPI)? A common one is omeprazole (aka Prilosec). You might benefit from this and it could help alleviate what feels like "hunger".

Ditto what Webchickadee said...more than likely excess stomach acid. Once I started taking omeprazole, it made a world of difference! Hang in there.

I have a prescription for omeprazole but haven't felt any stomached acid or reflux so haven't taken any of them. Maybe I will try taking them daily. Thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
