I'm from the Quincy Illinois area and am new to this forum. My doctor is in the process of submitting the insurance information. I should know something by my August appointment about a surgery date.

I was originally going to be getting an RNY, but my doctor ended up suggesting the VSG instead. I'm thankful to find a place like this to learn and hear from others.

hey dude - welcome to the neighborhood :)

always great to see a newbie with such a wonderful smile :)

things can be/are a little overwhelming at first, but you'll be fine

you'll have many different emotions as WLS approaches like excitement, joy, but also nerves will act up

i can tell you will be an asset to the board with all your questions!!!!

ask away - we love to help, we're all here to support you NEWBIES!!

enjoy the continueing process towards getting WLS

get used to a few things like drinking as much H20 as possible

DON'T drink with any of your meals!!!!(people have been shot for less ;) )

stop drinking 30 minutes before you eat

don't eat for 45-60 minutes after you eat

drink as much as possible during the day (at least 64 oz)

eat slowly, chew thoroughly

stop drinking soda now - can't have post WLS

the above are your new rules you must live with - again people have been shot for not following :o

enjoy starting your new healthier, happier, longer life!!!! :)

take care guy

good luck!!!!

kathy

It's exciting to have a newbie on the board. i love new perspectives. This is a fantastic journey to be on. It is scary the not knowing but you've done all that's required and have the application for approval. you will do fine. What is your BMI, starting weight, and how do you want to lose. This is exciting. :P

Thank you all for the welcome. My BMI starting this process out was 53. My weight from my primary doctor, before my first WLS surgeon appointment, was 373. I've been on a pre-surgery diet from my dietician and am at a BMI of 44 right now. My goal weight, as I recall, is 170.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
