May Bandsters~January Chat!

Recommended Posts

Kim - good news. I talked to Gina about the afterfill diet. I went for my follow up appt today and I asked why our post adjustment diet was so conservative compared to other bandsters. Here is the answer I received....The diet we are on is evidently one of the first post fill diets invented and that is just what my doctor stuck with. The nurse told me that they basically give us that diet because they know if we have that type of diet, we will at least take it easy for a few days. She says that they know most people do not follow the diet. She said they feel if they told us to only take it easy for 48 hours, then we might not take it easy at all and some people don't swell until the 2nd day or having longer swelling issues. It makes sense but I still think it is silly they give that diet. She basically told me that today that I have been banded long enough to know my limitations and use my best judgment. She said if I am hungry and ready to move on before the next phase should officially begin, to go for it but just use common sense and caution. Makes perfect sense to me! That being said, I am getting adjusted on 2/13 at 2:30!

Alicia - Oh My Goodness! We're finally gonna meet! That's when I scheduled my adjustment for the other day! Really its at 3:00, but gonna weigh in around 2:30 on the 13th. I love Gina don't you? She and Angel are both so nice, and they are always very encouraging to me. I'm sooo glad you asked about the diet, because those Clear Liquids for 3 - 5 days kill me. I can handle anything but that.

Well, I definitely need the fill, seems like I can't get enough to eat. I'm trying to watch my calories, carbs, fat, etc, but I WANT TO snack. TOM isn't helping either.

Hey Ousooner! Good to hear from ya! Sorry about the PB. I haven't done that yet and hope not to. I've been "stuck" a few times but it always seems to go down. Keep Posting!

I wondered if we would meet Kim! I can't wait to finally meet you! Do you work down town as well? I love Gina too. She is very easy to talk to. I am glad I got to ask her about the diet and not Dr. Rose. I think he is hard to talk to sometimes. I didn't know she had 2 college age kids. She doesn't look like she is old enough to have grown kids.

Alicia - Yep, I work just down the road on Dodds Ave.

I think Dr. Rose is hard to talk to as well.. plus I never see him except at fills. I always see Angel or Gina. WOW! I didn't know she had kids at all! College age? No way! Can't wait to meet ya!

The next time I come to Colorado to visit my sis, you will be on my list Drews! I may be going in March. My sister and her hubby are going on a trip with his work and she needs someone to watch her girls. If her in-laws don't watch the girls she is going to fly me and Harrison out there to watch them.

Well folks I finally did it. I joined a gym tonight. So tomorrow I start the exercise journey. I know I am horribly deconditioned so it will be slow going.

Ya'll have my utmost admiration to have been such good bandsters.

Congrats on joing the gym Myra. That's half the battle! I hope you will really start to enjoy the exercise, and I know you'll feel a lot better because of it. I find the biggest battle for me is actually dragging my butt there. I am often tempted to go home after working all day, but my conscious (sp?) wins and I wind up going to work out. Once I get there and get started I'm always glad I went. Are you going to have someone at the gym who can help you get started? Good luck! Oh and try the elliptical machines, they are wonderful. When I first started out I could only do about 3 minutes on the elliptical, now I'm up to 40 minutes. It's a great cardio workout, and I swear it has help to re-shape my wide, flat butt into a rounder, thinner one!

Drews - I hope we get to meet someday.. ever go to Vegas? Thats about the closest I get to Colorado these days.. I used to go to California a couple times a year because my best friend lived out there for several years. We are planning a trip in June/July to Vegas, and I can't wait!

Later Maysters! Keep going!

HA HA HA kim2bhealthy I am always telling my family I have a MAN BUTT. I swear there is nothing but skin and bones back there. I would OF COURSE carry my weight all in front around my belly.

:faint: I seriously look like this little guy with stick arms, stick legs and no butt.:omg:

Well Myra - here's to a rounder, sexier girl butt!:D

I carry ALOT of my weight in my belly too.. It's getting smaller, but still huge. I still get a "muffin top" if I wear jeans too tight. And I hate having a "muffin top"!

OU-sorry about the pb. :/ good luck on the fill!

Drewslou-congrats on the so smoking! some guys at my husbands work are trying, but they aren't very successful so far. :/

MVPO8961-good for you on joining the gym...I need to join one some day soon!

What is an eliptical machine? I probably should know the answer to that one. :/

Alicia and Kim-I'm glad your postfill diet got straightened out...I can't imagine how hungry you guys must have been!

Does anyone know why some days you feel wide open and you can eat anything and others your coffee feels like it gets stuck? The past two weeks I've been yo-yoing about the decision to get another fill because I'm just not sure if I'm there yet. Know what I mean?

Well, I better go get some things done before I have to pick up my three year old from "school".

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Kelli

Myra, Excellent news that your last fill seems to be working so well. Thats great. Will you still have to go ahead with port revision immediately or will it be postponed for awhile?

On insurance....I too have HCA UHC and have been fighting with them for months. They denied my last 3 claims for no good reason. Its been frustrating. Fortunately, Dr jay's office is doing most of the fighting for me. They've been great.

Linda, hang in there and best wishes with job situation and search.

Kim and Alicia, my Dr has a very conservative post-fill diet plan too. I had to stay on clear liq for 24 hours then 6 days of full liquids. On the full liquid he added, a minimum of 4 Protein Drinks a day. Its awful. But I did drop a few lbs in the process. :D

:clap2: Drew....OMG, congrats on the roller derby. Its sounds rockin!! You must get us some pic's of you in full "derby gear"!!!

Kim....thank you for a laugh, that muffin website is hysterical.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
