jjh 3 Posted July 6, 2013 I had my surgery three days ago and have been so sick the last few days. I am still in the hospital as I can't keep anything down. Initial X-ray came back clear and that everything looked great. Have been on nausea meds for two days and still so sick to my stomach. Any body else experience this? Will it ever end? LipstickLady 25,682 Posted July 6, 2013 Yup. Sounds about right. This will pass. Day three was the worst, in my opinion. Walk, sip, sleep, walk, sip, sleep, walk sip, sleep. You will feel much better in a few days. I am seven weeks out today and I still take nausea meds from time to time as a preventative because I've learned the warning signs for it coming on. You are perfectly normal. Hang in there, keep your chin up and look forward to your new future!
RAAinNH 113 Posted July 6, 2013 I was discharged with only one night stay in the hospital. I slept for three straight days when I got home. I got up long enough to use the bathroom and walk around. I laid in bed and sipped Water and Isopure. Each day I felt a little better. I'm a week and a half out and I'm feeling great! Hang in there! 1 Mayfly reacted to this
BKLYNgal87 503 Posted July 6, 2013 If you aren't able to keep anything down I don't think they will release you. You can try discussing with your surgical team upping your anti-nausea meds or giving you a different type of pain med (narcotics make a lot of people very sick). They may say no but it doesn't hurt to be an assertive patient! I was given less narcotic and more toradol in the hospital so I could keep my fluids down. A scopolamine patch helped me a lot too. But this will pass and in a week I bet you'll feel like a whole new person!
notime 340 Posted July 6, 2013 Yes, ask your team if they think changing things up a bit might help. The scopolamine patch actually made me nauseous. Not that I think that is your problem, but it illustrates the point that some few of us have other than normal reactions to various drugs.
