Hello all, i had my sleeve on 2-7-2013, i was out of the hospital yesterday at about noon (the hospital has a policy that all sleevers must stay 4 days at the hospital) so i havent been worrying about the amount of fluids i am taking because the hospital took care of that, anyways.. Now that i am home and on my own and even though i have everything i should eat on paper I DONT think i am having enough fluids! I cant take anymore than i am already having!! Is that ok? Or should i force my self to drink more? Another question is: i am still in pain and have to take painkillers, i can only sleep on my back i cant really move in my sleep because it gets painful, is this normal? If yes, when is the pain supposed to go away without the help of pain meds? Please Help, thank you :D

Congrats!

Did you have a surgery other than sleeve?

I'm a month out and for me personally I am still a little sore, but I also had 2 hernias repaired. I was on pain meds for a solid 1.5 weeks because of my umbilical hernia.

Remember, everyone is different. There is a reason they give out pain meds, it hurts to have your stomach muscles cut through. I was on serious meds and felt bad for asking for a 3rd refill and the nurse told me that this was not out of the ordinary.

I hope you fell better soon.

I took the pain meds for about a week or ten days (liquid Tylenol with codeine) which tasted awful! It was only at night after about five days.

I still don't feel like I am drinking enough fluids as I'd like, but my surgeon said as long as I am peeing clear and regularly and don't feel thirsty that my body is probably getting enough. It has been much easier getting fluids down in more volume in the past week or so. I guess my tummy is healing! I would not suggest "forcing" anything at this stage. Just stay hydrated and do your best with the Protein.

Congratulations on your new sleeve! :)

I'm on day 16 and I am finishing all my pain meds at night to sleep well. It also helped me from habit diarrhea. My left incision is still really sore. Every doctor is different and do incisions different. I wanted to share my docs info because it has really helped me.

I was on pain meds for 6 days. After that I took Tylenol. Still had some discomfort. It gets better every day. I a m 6 weeks out now and feel great. No problems at all. I went back to work after 1.5 weeks off and felt fine after that. It just takes some time to heal. I get plenty of sleep at night. I think that's really important. Drink all ur fluids that's important too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
