Terrified that Surgery willl be cancled

Recommended Posts

So I have been on my pre op diet aka liver reduction diet since almost 2 weeks ago. I have only lost about 9 pounds but gained one back (mostly because an all Protein diet can block you up.). I am so scared that I will go through all of this and be told that my liver is too fatty and they can't do the surgery. Has anyone experienced this or heard of it happening. I have not cheated on my diet once and have only gone over 30 g of carbs a couple of times and that was by very little like 5-10. I am sorta freaking out.

I am on day 11 of my pre-op protein/Low carb diet. I'm down 5 1/2 lbs and have not cheated either. I've been allowed 40 carbs and I have been very diligent at keeping it there or below. Try not to worry, I'm sure your surgery will go off without a hitch! I'm so ready for Monday. I haven't heard of anyone's surgery being stopped due to the pre-op diet unless of course someone were to keep eating the carbs and fail at following the diet. Good luck!!

Stick to it. Also take a Fiber capsule or stool softener. Maybe that will make a difference. Good luck.

I'm on my 4th day of preop and have lost five pounds. My doctor didn't mention anything about watching my carbs, just Protein and calories.

What pre-op diets are your doctors recommending? Mine will have me doing the opti-fast for 12 days (I think strictly 4 shakes and 1 bar, or 5 shakes---plus sugar free clear liquids)...then the 2 day clear liquid diet.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
