Any suggestions for liquid protein--no powders?

Recommended Posts

My post op diet calls for all liquid protein--no powder shakes for the first 2 weeks. Are there any suggestions for Liquid Protein drinks/shots? I have noticed several posts on Syntrax but those are powders right? What about Pro Joe or Unjury? Any favorite flavors or other brands anyone can think of that are tasty?

Am i confused about this powder or ready made thing? My post op instructions specifically says no powders--liquids only. Well, after you mix the powder in something it is liquid lol! What is the difference here?

My favorite is the Premier Protein from costco and SAMs. They taste the best to me and seem to be one of the most reasonable.

I think you should clarify with your doctor perhaps they want you on Clear Liquids that long although 2 weeks seems kind of long for clear liquids but I would ask.

You can get Protec liquid Protein from Amazon or Bariatric Advantage. Comes in 25 or 50 gram sizes and a bunch of flavors. I ordered the orange-pineapple flavor and mixed with Orange Crystal Light. It's in individual tubes so I could just stick it in my purse with a packet of Crystal Light and go.

Can taste a little vitaminy, but gives a nice energy lift.

I love Isopure. 40g of good whey Protein. They are 20 oz, which sometimes is a bit much, but it's a good start to my day.

I went to the Vitamin Shoppe yesterday, they have individual bottles of Isopure in different flavors. I only have to be on clear liquids for 1 week post op. I purchased the Unjury chicken Soup, and the unflavored mix on their website. I'm gonna go back to the Vitamin Shoppe and get several flavors of the Isopure right before I leave for Mexico. (I don't know what the shelf life is so I don't want to stock up too soon). That way I'll have a variety of choices, hot and cold.

Apple and the pineapple orange banana are probably my faves. I like them all but the blue one and I don't remember it's name.

I think it may be because when you shake your powder and milk/water you add air bubbles and maybe they don't want that messing with the healing

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
