Ive had my GS since Feb. of 2009 and in the begining it seemed to be pretty good. but then I stopped losing weight and actually gained back most of what I lost. I got so frustrated & depressed I I began not to care anymore. :( I seem to be able to do well for a bit but then Im back to eating unhealthy, and sometimes eating more than I should or need to. My son had a GS done last October, he has had tremendous success & I am SO proud of him you cant even imagine. I thought for sure his success would inspire me, & it does, at times. WHY CAN'T I STICK TO THIS ????

Anyone with some suggestions please please share. msg me on Facebook, Cathy Hurkmans Tolman or email me cmt@chartermi.net or reply here, whatever you can do.

Im lost, Im depressed and Im ready to stop trying even some of the time :(

I'd recommend two things - go see a nutritionist and go get counseling. Sounds like your head isn't in this game. If you were eating Protein first, making good food choices, etc., you would NOT be gaining. What's going on?

Levve Guru, I only WISH I could answer that. I dont really know whats going on. for the most part, my meals consist of a protien and a veggie. I will totally admit that sweets are a huge weakness for me. I'm just at a point that I need to know how to care again.

That's where I think counseling will come in handy - clearly, there's more going on in your head/heart than can be controlled with a weight loss tool like the sleeve. You've got to get to the root of THAT to be successful!

Start a new fresh slate go on a ten day full liquid diet then start back on the basics! You need to get 70-80 grams of Protein in daily and remain at 800 calories max per day!.In order to do that you must eat protein rich foods first at each meal. The protein should be 75% of your meal. Measure and weight what you it. 4 ounces at each meal only. If you follow these main rules you will definently loose weight. You also need to drink 64 ounces of Water a day. Take your multi Vitamin and calcium/vit-d daily. Keep your carbs around 40 grams a day. Use myfitnesspal.com to keep your self accountable. You should also exercise 5 days a week for 30-45 minutes. Everyone falls off the wagon the key to success is to get up dust your self off and try again! I tried to quite smoking for 3 years. I would stop then smoke then quite then smoke. finally quite and it stuck! Each time you go threw failing at something you learn and change in a certain way. Give up for a while but go right back to it when your ready. You can do this. The sleeve is a tool. If you use it the way it is meant to be used you will have amazing results. The way you use the sleeve will become your new way of life. By repeatedly following the rules it will eventually become a habit and will be like second nature to you. good luck and never give up :)

I think the answer lies deep withen you. You have to want to do this for yourself, you have to want to be ready to make a positive change. I still struggle and yes I feel full but sometimes I just want to eat. I havent been sleeved long but surprisingly I have no problems eating and yes I stop when my stomach says so but an hour later Im sure if I wanted to I could go another round. Just out of habbit. But I make a conscious decision after everything I just volenterily did to myself not too and to work through the brain wanting a little something to munch on just because im bored. Maybe you should go talk to someone about it. But even if you do, I f YOU yourself are not ready to commit, not even going to talk to your higher power is going to help. This ones on you. I wish you all the best, and I hope you work through this and become a great success.

Very wise advice. Couldn't have said it better. Today is a new day, what happened before doesn't matter. Make it matter for just today. One day at a time.

Also, the advice to see a therapist is spot on. You need to discover what is going on in your head.

Sending you good wishes and prayers in your journey.

It is frustrating. I think when you started hitting stalls you gave up and felt like a failure. you weren't a failure it was normal to have stalls. Now is the time to seek therapy to help with these issues. i agree with detoxing and a going back to a high Protein diet, eliminate sugars and carbs..... Sugar is addicting and is very toxic for our bodies. Sugar is my demons so I stay away from it. I will read all products and eliminate anything that has sugar in it. I have sugar and I want more sugar.....When I did eat sugary things, I would gain weight. I also eliminated all corn and starchy vegetables from my diet. My daughter used to raise steers and lambs and what they did to fatten them up, they fed them corn........So that's off my list of things to eat......If you want to get the weight back off, it's your decision to make.......You can do 1) seek therapy and 2) get back to basics of protein first then non starchy veggies........ Let us know what you decide.......It is your decision. we can support you here on VST. :P

I agree that counseling would be very beneficial for you right now. Is possible that like many of us, (myself included) that you are stuffing feelings down and doing it via twinkies.

A good counselor can help you get to the bottom of it and help you move past it.

The fact that you posted on here tells me you don't really want to give up! Make a commitment to yourself to go on liquids just for a week to rid yoursself of the carb cravings. You can do this!!!!! Forget the past and look to a healthier, happier future. Please let us know how you are doing.

Remember for addiction, "One is too many, a thousand is not enough". I think support groups are very helpful to connect with others who struggle daily. We all are going through our personnel struggles to get this right. You are just like us. That's why we are here now.

I agree with many of the comments above. I advise going back to the basics: Water, walking, Protein. You may need to totally cut out all sweets for a long time til you can have them in moderation & you may be somebody who can't have them. I know I am. (I know it is easier said than done, but there's a lot of sugar free things out there now!) I think you need to go see your dr, your nut, and a counselor to come up with a game plan. Don't worry about the past...don't look in the rearview mirror...just the windshield! I wish you all the best.

I would go to your doctor. I am way over a year out and I can not over eat. It's just physically impossible with my restriction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
