Last Supper

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm really trying to avoid the 'Last Supper Syndrome', with a bit less than a month to go. I really 'do' want to have some things that I truly may not be able to handle post surgery.

If I were 'Dead Man Walking', or truly having a 'Last Supper' for myself, I would eat:

macaroni and Cheese!

French bread with Brie

Filet Mignon

Fried Calamari

Sushi

Mom's chicken Soup with orzo

Lamb chops

Those are my few. What about you guys...what would be yours?

sherilynn, don't stress, you can eat every single thing on that list. Your restriction will vary -- but you WILL get to eat your favorites. I know that might sound scary. If you can still eat that stuff, then why won't you just keep on like you are now, without the band? Well, in short, I find that as I lose weight I am also losing the "I may never have this again" feelings. So it feels a lot easier to not go overboard. PLUS, the band itself does NOT allow for bingeing. Even in your worst moments of gorging, you will be physically unable to stuff yourself.

Really, I feel like I can trust myself more around food. I still battle with choices, but quantity wise, I know the band is always there. I use to plan entire days around The Last Supper before I started a diet! It was The Last Breakfast, lunch AND Supper! But I haven't had to o that anymore. It's more like "ok, this is the last soft food and then I swear I will eat my hard proteins" Still a head game, but an easier one to win.

I am really excited about being banded next week. And one of the reasons I am doing it is just like PeloRojo says: I can still eat the things I like, but I won't be able to eat the quantities I have been. Like my PCP says, "Less food is fewer calories. That is what gives us a chance to lose weight" Also, the biggest binge problem I've had is bread, and I've been told that I won't be eating bread anymore. It's just one big thing I have to give up, and that's fair. But in the meantime I've been eating bread like I usually do - too much of it. Bagels like it's my last Breakfast. And with all this bread go the things we generally like to put on it. And I doubt I'll eat those things without the bread.

I like my Protein and fruit and veggies. If I eat a satisfying amount of those, I figure I'll never get to the bread and dessert part.

I am a bit nervous about the things that are recommended to eat/drink. I can't tolerate milk. Udder pus. We're weaned at the age of two-and-a-half for a reason. Skim milk is the worst thing in the world, especially in coffee, even in Cereal. Then there's Protein shakes. That reminds me of my Slim Fast and Nutri System failures. They're not food. They're torture.

So onward to my freezer full of homemade, Vitamin packed broth, and goats milk drinkable yogurt. I'll live for a week, and then on to blended Soups. Then to get individual mini-portion freezer containers so I can cook up a bunch of mushies for the next phase. Then all the dark meat chicken and ground meat stuff I like will come back, but in the smaller containers.

Welll -

there isn't anything on your list that I CAN'T eat - although the bread would take some concentration and a whole lot of chewing.

Don't get too worried - You will be ABLE to eat your favorites - just not in the same quantity.

:]

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
