laffypatty 47 Posted July 5, 2013 I don't have any of Aetna's short list of comorbidities (sleep apnea, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes). Has anyone been approved by Aetna with a BMI less than 40 and some *other* obesity-related issue, such as orthopedic problems and asthma? I have a BMI that's fluctuated between 37 and 48 over the last three years. My BMI was highest while pregnant and I'm sure insurance won't accept that. Pre-pregnancy BMI is just under 40 and post-baby BMI is 42ish.
Miss Piggy 30 Posted July 5, 2013 My conditions included: depression, pre diabetes, spinal stenosis and chronic Migraines. BMI was around 37 when approved but I was initially denied. It took a peer review to get approved. Good Luck!!!
LesIsMore 22 Posted July 11, 2013 You could just gain a few pounds to insure you're at 40. I'm really worried about this also. I'm at 39, with high cholesterol. I've read threads where folks have done that and/or had weights in their pockets or ankles.
laffypatty 47 Posted July 11, 2013 I went to surgeon's office Monday for my regular visit with the nurse practitioner and nutritionist and I lost another four pounds. My BMI is now 40.3. I refuse to just stop losing weight, so I plan to wear ankle weights OR SOMETHING at my next appointment in August. So crazy!
buplee 556 Posted July 11, 2013 My bmi was 49 with no comorbities and I was initially denied by Aetna twice. I fought with them for 18 months before hiring a healthcare advocate who threatened to sue and go to the media. I was finally sleeved on 2/19/13 and I am down 80 lbs. 1 laffypatty reacted to this
