My recent GS experience

Recommended Posts

I am a new Gastric Sleeve patient. I am 6 days post op and still struggling with extreme gas pains. My experience however, was pretty darn awesome. I had my surgery performed in Cancun with Dr. Hector Perez. From the day I decided to proceed, his coordinator, alma Orozco with Ready 4A Change was with me every step of the way. She was informative, helpful and always professional. I was not the easiest person to deal with... I ask a lot of questions. And not all at once :-/

I booked my flight and Alma handled literally, everything! They provided ground transportation to and from the airport, arranged my hotel stay at a 4+hotel and transportation to and from the surgery center. Dr. Perez was also extremely helpful, professional, informative and very nice. I was scared because I had gone by myself. Any concerns I had were eased by his care and experience.

I can say so far, this has been difficult. I'm a "foodie!" My husband and I love to dine and drink our vino. Watching my family enjoy some of the best foods around me while I'm on liquids is certainly trying. But then I remember why I did this, look at my family, look at the scale (14 lbs down!) and realize my life won't always be restricted. It takes time and effort. I'll be able to enjoy my favorite foods again. Just in much smaller portions. And I'm OK with that.

To Dr. Perez, Alma, and the rest of the staff, THANK YOU for all you have done.

hi newbie :)

welcome to the neighborhood

many/most of us are just here, hanging around to listen to your questions, vents et al

it helps me/maybe others to stay on track by coming to this board

seeing new questions, hearing good answers

just keeping me/others on the straight and arrow!!!!

many/some questions you might have will be repetitive from our newbie days

but we love to answer questions and help newbies

thats why we get the big bucks :D

we got alot of help in the past from other VETS

we're here to "pay it forward" :)

we don't have all the answers, but we're pretty smart ;)

6 days PO - and you are still around to talk about it!! ;)

glad you had a good experience in Mexico

co-ordinator being so helpful

you are not the easiest person to work with????

hmmmm, i'm sure there are others worse than you - thats pretty bad!!

sorry you are still dealing with gas situation

this too shall "pass"

things should/will get better day by day

it must be hard watching others have normal meals

i always considered myself lucky cuz its only me and DH at home

don't have to prepare meals for kids et al

i make DH fend for himself

sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders!!

as you mentioned - time and effort are very important

patience is also key

you didn't gain weight overnight - won't come off that quickly either

but it will come off

never compare yoursellf to other peoples weight loss

we are are all different - and we lose at our own proper speed

follow all the rules - Water esp. Protein et al - you know what to do :)

you'll be another pretty face in the crowd with success stories to one day telll your grandkids :D

good luck on your path to a healthier, happier, longer, life

continued speedy recovery and success

kathy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
