I am 52 years old and thought I was about finished with hot flashes...it had been a couple of years.since they were bad....I am almost 3 months post op VSG and ive lost 42.pounds total since I began last sept pre op...31 since surgery......my question is have any of you ladies experienced a increase in hot flashes since having surgery...I do not have a uterus so I dont have the abnormal periods ive heard about...but maybe its a hormone issue?

Never had at flashes pre-op. three mon post-op, OMG. They came with a vengeance! I understood there would be hormonal adjustments, but geesh!!!!! Doc attributed part to hormonal changes from significant weight loss & my age (47).

I tried to deal with them for a month with no relief. So I finally gave in & found an herbal supplement that I take daily. Within 10 days, hot flashes & night sweats subsided. Call it my miracle pill because after 10 days, they stopped completely. Thats not unless i miss 2 doses.

Oh my goodness YES! I think it is because of the hormones being released in the fat cells. I am no doctor by a long shot but I did read something about this. I am also 52.

I know this is an old thread but I'm hoping to resurrect it. Having serious, sleep depriving Hot Flashes. I'm 46, almost 47 and GYN checked levels. Levels have all dropped but I'm not done. Started taking Black Cohash. Having strange dreams (many about sex ????) and it gives me almost a hang over headache in morning. Anyone else experience that with Black Cohash? Would love to know.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
