AM and PM Workouts?

Recommended Posts

happy New Years friends!

in trying to make exersice more resolution i dusted off my elliptical and bought a headphone extender so i can watch movies from my laptop on my desk.

i couldnt get past 15 minutes on the machine. i am NOT a morning person. i can never seem to get out of bed in the morning the first time my alarm goes of cuz well i hate my job and hate being there... but i'm thinkig of trying to act like a grown up and not snooze a zilion time. then i can do 15 minutes in the morning and do the next 15 minutes when i get home til my endurance builds up.

anyone find sucess breaking the workouts up?

or should it be 30 minutes straight?

It doesn't matter if you break up your exercise time. The important thing to do is find a schedule that's going to work for you.

I've heard mixed reviews on this topic before. But, one thing I've heard (and I don't know if there's any scientific facts to back this up) is that if you need to break up your routine like this then you should do at least 20 minutes at a time. I've heard it takes 20 minutes to get your body into fat-burning mode.

As far as the eliptical...15 minutes was about all I could stand at first too! But, now I can easily do 30 minutes and I love it. I think that thing gives a really good workout! I wish I had one at home.

30 minutes straight may work better....People will not beleive me-but I am shooting for that 60 minutes--5 days a week on the treadmill---then kicking in 30 to 45 minutes of weight training--3 time a week

It's not hard now that I am not depressed anymore....I always say--P.U.S.H. Pray Until Something Happens

I like doing the AM and PM thing. I do 45 minutes every morning, with the intent to do another 60 minutes in the PM; however, most of the time I am too tired after work to work out, or there is a meeting, or something happens. THat is why I like my 530 workout, the worst thing that can happen is that I won't get up.

To avoid that, I put all my stuff in the car. My make-up, hair dryer, curling Iron, clothes for tthe day. Everything is in the car. If I don't get up, I have to go out to the car, bring everything upstairs, unload, etc. for me, that is too much work, I'd rather workout. I know it is all pyschological, but, hey what ever works right?

I, personally, think anything under 30 minutes is a waste, so I exercise AT LEAST that every time. When I'm swimming, because of the extra effort, it needs to be at least 40, and some mornings I am forcing myself to do that.

You should probably move your alarm clock away from the bed. Also since I drink a lot of Water at night when my alarm rings there is nooooo way I could go back to sleep w/o getting up to pee. And once I'm "sitting there"--my workout pants & top hanging right on the shower handle in front of me it's really hard NOT to pull them on and get on the machine instead of crawling back into bed.

What I love about my elliptical is that I don't even have to put on shoes to workout. I've been leaving the therm down low and every time I get really cold I jump on for 3-5 minutes to warm up. That's a really easy way to burn cals! (Also since I know I'm just there for a short jaunt I tend to work out at a higher intensity.)

The MOST IMPORTANT thing about ANY workout (no matter how you break up the time) is that it's easy enough for you to DO consistently.

That's so true. I think whether or not you get a better fat burn from long continuous exercise sessions, its better to actually do it, however you do it.

When you're talking about machines, boredom sets in very easily so two fifteen minute sessions is an easy way round that.

What I'd probably do is just that, and also try to play for a few longer sessions in a week, even if its just a walk. Mix it up. But having a treadmill in my living room, if I"m having a day where I'm just at home, I often hop on it and walk a kilometre five or six times during the day. It all adds up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
