Waking up with vomit (acid) in your mouth?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm 6 weeks post op and have woken up twice in the middle of the night with vomit taste in my mouth. It burns soooo bad and made me feel like I couldn't swallow and catch my breath for a few min. I take my Prilosec daily. I did have a snack before bed so maybe that was it. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else ?

Yes don't eat or drink close to lying down. Also ask your doc to increase your ppi dosage or switch you to protonix it is slightly more expensive but it works better for me and my doc said that is true for a lot of people. Reflux can erode your esophagus.

That is such a horrible feeling. Is there any way you can slightly elevate the head of your bed. That helps with acid reflux. Hope it goes away soon...... :)

I found the same problem post op. I am a nurse so I tend to medicate myself, but I found that a Zantac right before bed helps a lot. Prilosec in the morning and Zantac at night. Of course you should discuss with your doctor to determine the best course for you, but this works well for me.

Good luck!

Happened to me twice and only thing I could figure was I had snack too close to bed. Now I make sure to give myself a few hours before last snack and bed. It was nasty and I felt like I was choking.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
