Hello VSG family. Has anyone NOT had success with the sleeve? I am Pre-surgery August 7th sleeve date. I keep having nightmares that mine won't work. I guess I'm considered a lightweight at 5'4 and 220 weight and 38 BMI. some are saying that I won't lose much because "I'm not that big" or because I have a lot of muscle tone in my legs well fat is fat and I'm overweight with a host of medical issues. Please give me the good bad and the ugly. I would prefer to hear from sleevers close to my weight. My doctor gave me the choice of the RNY or Sleeve but I believe the sleeve is right for me. Thanks in advance.

My BMI was slightly lower than yours (I've been higher than where I started this time) and I've lost 25 LBs in just under 6 weeks. Some might consider this "slow", I think that's funny. I will take an average of 4LBs per week anytime!!! Definitely lost very quickly the first 2 weeks and I'm guessing 1-3 per week from here onward.

It is very important to never try to compare your loses to anyone else because everyone is different. If you follow the program the way it is designed for you, you will lose weight at your bodies own pace. Good Luck.

I think that each and everyone of us have had the fear that we would fail at this too. Our fears seem to get the best of us at times. It is goo to be aware of the complications that may occur so that you can take preventive measures if needed. But like previous poster has stated, each one of us is different. I have had no complications and pretty much reached my goal pretty fast. I am at maintenance now and working at staying where I'm at. Yayyyyyyyyyyy! This is the best decision I have ever made. :P

I also started with the same BMI of 38. It's weird for me because I'll lost a bunch at once and then stall for a week or more. BUT I have to remind myself that in two months I've lost 37 lbs! I think it would be quicker but severe gas pain in my shoulder still makes it hard to eat and drink. I was indecisive at first between the sleeve and bypass because let's face it...I didn't wanna lose a little I want to lose A LOT. But I tell ya I don't want the complications that come from RNY...my mom and cousin had it and have had ulcers and malnutrition. Trust me...keep looking at pics from this site and you will see TONS of people with our same stats making goal. This site was and is my inspiration and reminds me that it WILL happen. I figure that I will do whatever it takes to make goal in one year. That's only one more year of being fat!! Hang in there...you made the right decision and will love your sleeve!

Same BMI as u to start, height 5'2 and weight 207 - 10 weeks out today, 40lbs down and I don't think that's too shabby! Weightloss has been steady, I have drunk Water and eaten exactly as per the instructions. No drama with the scales as i weigh myself no more than once a week. Have had a couple of weeks with no weight loss but stayed calm and, as everyone says, it passes. Have 27lbs to go and I intend to keep doing more of the same! But being sleeved is the best thing I have ever done for myself - good luck :-)

Autumnrain, I just had my sleeve done on June 24th. I was 224 lbs. and 5'3" with a starting BMI of 36.8, I believe. Today, 11 days out from surgery, I got to change the # in my hundreds place!! How cool is that! :) I'm at 199 lbs. Still a long ways to go, but I am very happy with everything so far. I lost 17 lbs. on the preop diet, but including the weight put on during surgery because of all the fluids they give you, I have lost 14 lbs in the last 11 days. I've been amazed at what it feels like to NOT be hungry. I think you will do fine!! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
