How did recovery compare to previous surgeries?

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is July 18. I am feeling a little nervous about recovery! 5 years ago I had an emergency c-section, followed 16 weeks later by a laparoscopic-converted-to-open fibroid removal. Then 2 years ago I had another c-section for twins followed 12 weeks later by a laproscopic hernia repair. Has anyone had a c-section, myomectomy, or abdominal hernia repair to compare their sleeve recovery to?

I had two c-sections. They were a piece of cake for me. The sleeve was a somewhat difficult recovery for the first day or so, much more intense than the cesarians. But it passes. You will be fine and happy :)

My only other surgery was gall bladder removal and it was pretty comparable. Pretty uncomfortable for the first couple of days, but that's when you use your drugs for relief. Then each day it gets easier as you move around and heal. :)

I felt better 2 days after my sleeve than I did with my 2 c-sections. I felt that the csections were harder for me recover from. I always figured it was because of the extra weight when i had them. The sleeve surgery was not comfortable- but it is manageable with meds and it is worth it. Just like having a c section for a healthy baby- the sleeve surgery is worth it for the future healthy body! :)

Thanks, girls! My c-sections were both tough...Both followed a hospital bedrest so I was weak. First was an emergency after a hemmorhage and the second was for two babies. I really hope the sleeve is easier than the c-sections! This is the first surgery where I was working out ahead of time, so I hope that helps.

My two c-sections (30 and 26 years ago) were harder for me. This was really a walk in the park compared to those. I was much more sore with the kids. For my sleeve, I was up walking 3 hours after I into my room. No nausea, that was my biggest fear and it didn't happen. I sat in a comfy chair all afternoon and evening. I walked laps every hour. That helped more than I can say. Didn't get into the bed till I went to sleep that night. Next morning I was able to go home.

I had set my mind to walking as soon as I could as so many people said that would help. They were right. Getting up out of the bed the first time was a doozy but after that, it was quite manageable. Stay ahead of the pain for the first 48 hours with meds, that what's it's there for. :)

Good luck, you will love your sleeve! I'm 4 months out and would do it again in a heartbeat!

I also had 2 c-sections and the pain for the sleeve was slightly worse but went away faster. The first two days the pain meds were my friend...I was off them by day 5. As others have said, WALKING is the key. I was up and walking about 30 minutes after getting into my room and I walked every 2 hours. I am 10 days post op and back up to walking, very slowly, 1 and half miles a day for my long trek on a treadmill and half mile mini walks 2 times a day in the neighborhood. Walking helped so much with the gas pain....I do have to make sure I don't overdo it because I have a tendency to do that. Anyway...if you have had all those other surgeries, you can definitely handle this one. Wishing you many good thoughts for your day...you will love the sleeve!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
