horrible left shoulder pain

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved two months ago. I have called the nurse twice because I have this excruciating pain run through my left shoulder every time I drink or eat anything. As a result I havent gotten my liquids or Protein in and I fear I am dehydrated. The nurse set me up with an appointment Monday. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I know it's probably gas but man this is painful and I dread every time I eat or drink. Oh and gas X has not helped. Help!

Have you tried using a straw for all of your fluids? It slowed my liquid intake enough that gas hasn't been an issue and it sure helped me learn to drink slower.

My Doctor said never use a straw because you drink air first.

Actually the straw helps A LOT because it prevents me from gulping. If I get the air out before the actual sip I don't get any gas. I found that it does help with gas pain too.

Yes, this pain is normal. The surgeon pumps a lot of air into our bodies for surgery. Did you start walking a lot before you were released? Walking is really the only thing that is going to help it. The more walking the better. Ice Packs helped me a lot too for the times in which I was sitting, sleeping, resting etc... Just burp, pass gas, and walk a ton. I'm 14 days out and the "pain" went away about day 12; it is still there a little but on a scale of 1-10 the pain is now a 1

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
