aroundhky 1,174 Posted July 9, 2013 I hear ya "Minky" on people leaving barbells and machines loaded with plates! Drives me mad thinking of how some people think the world revolves around them. Someone left the machines empty for them to use, but they can't do the same and put their weights back up for the next person. Like their momma is around there to clean up after their lazy slob-like selves! On the sizing up thing.....I guess when someone advances at me with some aggressive tone....I have no choice. It's a crazy guy self defense thing I suppose. 1 Banned member reacted to this

mark! 449 Posted July 10, 2013 There's a lot of hostility in gyms, I'm just glad I don't work out at the normal "nice person" gym. I'll stick to my kick in the ass powerlfting and bodybuilding gym and my garage. I personally think racking between sets is stupid, so long as you're not up wandering around in between sets. After a set, if they get left there unatteneded for any period of time, they're fair game, you were in the right.

LifetimeLoser 208 Posted July 10, 2013 good for you to say something. this ****** is probably used to people just letting him get away with that crap...NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT! I have a list of gym annoyances. I applaud you for being diplomatic...I don't know if I would have done the same. 2 Banned member and aroundhky reacted to this

He actually caught me on a good day, most days I would not have been so diplomatic.....especially in my younger/angry years. 1 LifetimeLoser reacted to this
Bigun71 18 Posted December 1, 2013 You are correct in your fustrations. The lack of etiquette in gyms today is a lack of standards in most peoples lives. I want to be wealthy enough so I can build a gym in my own home and not deal with the stupidty of others.. I have seen the exact thing you speak of on numerous occasions as well as people not wiping down equipment after use. I guess they believe that their sweat is a gift to you. I would only say we are both over 40 and the reason for fighting has been reduced to family defense only. Now if someone tries to attack you in the gym, I say grab the heaviest dumbell or plate and put his lights out. But as for the stares and such.. eh.. let em stare, if he says he was using those I just reply. "I thought you were finshed, I'll be done in a minute". I go to the gym and watch the silliness and slackness and to be honest I am not a germaphobe but I wear gloves all the time. The gym is just a place for people to demonstrate their lack of civility and general hygene.. Keep it up you are my role model! 1 aroundhky reacted to this
wcn1970 239 Posted December 1, 2013 I bite my tongue 10 times every day I work out. People are rude and obnoxious at the gym. I am taking my Planet Fitness shirt to a custom shop and having them put "Gym Etiquette Police" on the back and I am going to start educating people about proper etiquette in the gym. I do however cut in on people hanging out or hogging things in the gym daily. I could care less and act as though I can't hear them with my ear buds in. Should at least ask.
aroundhky 1,174 Posted December 2, 2013 If they are hovering around implements or squat racks, etc and not doing anything but socializing, I now cut in as well. Just because someone is standing near something doesn't reserve it for them. Unless of course they are there using it and just resting in between sets. If so, they were there before me and I wait my turn. If not and I see they aren't doing anything, I'll shuffle them along out of the way.
