Sorry you are feeling sad. I hope it will pass soon and you will feel like you have been given such a wonderful gift -- a chance for a life you always wished you had had. At least that's the way I feel.

Here's my post-surgery story: before the surgery my biggest fear was that I wouldn't be able to go out with my friends and eat baskets of chips and salsa and drink beer. So last week for my birthday a group of friends got together at my favorite Mexican restaurant (yes, I picked the place). I thought i would be really depressed and feel left out. You know what I discovered -- I actually enjoyed my friends more when I wasn't distracted by gorging on chips/salsa/beer.

And guacamole actually tastes pretty good when eaten with a fork rather than a greasy, salty tortilla chip!

Have you had that experience where some food you thought was your favorite just doesn't taste as good since your surgery? That's what happened to me -- I much preferred the simple chicken enchilada, to my former favorite, meat-filled chili relleno. Who knew!?!

Thank you for the encouragement everyone! It is nice to know it's normal and I'm not alone. I do look forward to the day when I can even eat a salad again lol but...until then...I'll keep thinking of those clothes I'm going to buy off the rack :P

Being sad is totally normal, For me food was a major part of my life, after surgery I had to find new ways to make myself happy. 7 months out I enjoy getting out and doing fun things that I could never do before surgery. Whenever I feel sad, I put on a pair of preop jean and see how much I have really changed. It is so much fun to go shopping now, I have to work extra because I finally love to shop :)

I just had surgery 8 days ago and I am fresh on reading my paperwork. This sounds like hibernation syndrome; where you get depressed, miss your old stomach, and the relationship you used to have with food. You're not alone. It happens in half of gastric patients and goes away in a few weeks.

I started feeling really down at 4 weeks also. I was on the verge of tears a lot. Trouble focusing and sleeping. It was the hormones. I felt somewhat better after a few weeks! Best wishes! It will get better!!

This is still early for you and it's normal. It will definitely get better & exciting. Hang in there & continue out for support because you are not alone in this journey. I'll tell you what, you may wish you can eat something now when you can't, when the time comes that you can, you may not want or even like it. Get ready for some major, good & exciting changes!!!!!

This started after week one for me. I had a melt down on Monday night - sobbing and all. (Not like me) but each day is different. Yesterday and today have been better and tomorrow marks 3 weeks for me and I am temporarily stuck on Clear Liquids. I am craving a burger like no other. I had moments of regret - like "why did I do this to myself?" The psychologist I had to see for pre-op warned me this would happen. I have a therapist that I see and have been able to talk to her on the phone on my worst days and I plan on attending the support group at the hospital I had the surgery at. Feel your pain - but tomorrow will be a new day. :) putting on a new shirt today that was just a little too tight before felt good.

I know I'm hormonal. I cried over a Kermit the frog song last week! My kids were like "are you crying??? " hope you start feeling better soon.

I sometimes feel like this too, I think it's because for me, everything in my life changed all at once. I had the surgery, a few days later I lost my job, and a few days after that I moved house! So everything in my life was different AND I was trying to deal with my new tummy. I was pretty emotional haha.

Anyway now I feel great, never been happier.

I think it's something most of a go through after surgery and it's pretty normal.

Jut focus on the good things, you may not be eating what your family eats but soon you will be able to do what they do (ride bikes, play in the park, run around outside ect) and which would you prefer?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
