Beachbum2017 108 Posted July 3, 2013 Does anyone have any experience with this? I could be in REAL trouble - I'm not sure that I actually remember what my natural hair color is - much less if it STILL that color or it has perhaps moved on towards that snow capped effect!! I heard that it causes the Hair loss to be much worse but really can't find any resources to check if this is true or just rumor. Any and all real life experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! 1 Ms skinniness reacted to this
newat52 1,613 Posted July 3, 2013 It's not true at all, we had this discussion several month ago and lots of hairdressers chimed in. They said it doesn't harm the hair at all and in fact will make it seem thicker. I am 4 months out and have mine done every 6 weeks or so. Hair loss may or may not happen, do your best to get your Protein in and take Biotin. 3 Ms skinniness, mamamareli and TES reacted to this
lilbearzmom 584 Posted July 3, 2013 I had highlights done almost 8 weeks ago- don't know if it affected my Hair loss or not- I am over 6 months out and wonder if I will be bald by the time I get to my goal weight! But hey, at least I have my health if not my hair...LOL 1 Ms skinniness reacted to this
Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted July 3, 2013 i haven't heard that. I dye my hair every 6 weeks and also have a keratin treatment.....I also take Biotin and silica and my hair has almost all grown back......I do also condition my hair when I have it dyed and straightened. My hair looks pretty good and grows at an extremely fast rate..... 1 TES reacted to this
RJ'S/beginning 5,358 Posted July 3, 2013 I have had the opposite of all of you.......I had my hair colored 2 weeks ago and the color did not take....I am silver at the temples and wanted so badly to color that.... Because I was on heavy medications for 5 months in the hospital due to complications with the sleeve..I face this issue....All the meds pass out of your pores and hair...So it can be an issue for some... When I was in the hospital I also lost most of my hair...So now it is starting to come back because I eat Protein and take Biotin..... My hair was so long and colored blond....it was beautiful...Now it is short and gray..... This is just one of the things I am dealing with...but like the other person said ....Some have problems others don't.... All the best!
mokee 588 Posted July 3, 2013 Had mine died right before surgery and then every 2 months after. Never a problem.
Nicolanz 1,484 Posted July 3, 2013 It depends on what you're doing. If your lightening your hair it's more damaging and you hair is probably more fragile after surgery. If you're darkening it's not as damaging. The problem you may have is it won't take as well because of hormones/medication. I never stopped coloring my hair. I color it darker than my natural and didn't have problems with it taking the color. I colored it 2 weeks after surgery. I recommend getting it professionally done because the products are better. nursepez 152 Posted July 3, 2013 I color (lighten) my own hair about every 6-8 weeks...no post-op delays...and haven't had any issues. Good luck to you. :-)

superchica879 58 Posted July 3, 2013 Does anyone have any experience with this? I heard that it causes the Hair loss to be much worse but really can't find any resources to check if this is true or just rumor. Any and all real life experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! I am also a hair stylist and have noticed that after my surgery my hair felt more dry and fragile. I still color my hair (darker) every 8 weeks or so and it happens to make it feel better. Of course any highlighting or lightening your hair can be damaging even prior to surgery so you need to be careful what products and who does it. As far as your color not taking...med's can cause that, so I ask clients if there on medications and if so I wash the hair with dish soap before the service (coloring, perming) leaving it on for a few minutes and it helps strip the med's out of the hair! I've also noticed that even when I get all my protien, liquids and Vitamins I still am losing my hair....a lot! My hair is way past the middle of my back and has always been nice and thick but now it's a definite notice that its thinning. I have to clean my brush out after each use because its filled. I pray it slows down soon but it's pretty much inevitable! Good luck with everything! 2 TES and RJ'S/beginning reacted to this
Nicolanz 1,484 Posted July 3, 2013 Nioxin helped me. It doesn't for everyone but I ran out and a week later my hair is falling out by the handful again! If you have a Beauty Brands near you, the liters are 50% off right now!
Banned member 320 Posted July 3, 2013 I've had my hair dyed and relaxed several times since surgery in Oct. I haven't lost any hair and I was never told not to color my hair. I don't see what the harm would be. ETA: I get my hair lightened with peroxide and it feels so healthy because I use a very good conditioner that helps nourish my hair. My hair is midway down my back and as healthy as before surgery. Like everyone else said get in your Protein and Vitamins.
prettylittleheart 95 Posted July 3, 2013 Just dyed my hair about 3 days ago, I'm a few days over 4 months post op - I lost hair before surgery due to polycystic ovarian syndrome, but it hasn't worsened at all.
SKCUNNINGHAM 298 Posted October 23, 2013 This is one thing I never stopped doing. I had my hair done colored at between 5 - 8 week intervals from the time I had surgery. I made sure I had it colored right before sugery, so it wouldn't need to be something I had to think about while I was recovering.
