here is a super basic article on fat requirements. you should eat 30-60 grams of good fat per day. at least half of which should be "raw." i am aiming for 2tbsp of coconut oil per day during phase one, sinceits liquid at body temp.

I don't discount the value of healthy fats. I agree and made bone broths in the beginning and still encourage others to do so!

I'm just saying that the nature of the surgery and anesthesia Hair loss is still likely to happen.

what kind of foods did you eat that caused you to need weight loss surgery? It must have been processed foods.

So not true.. Personally, I did/do have a problem with certain processed foods, but there were times (even years at a time) in my life where I didn't include any of them in my diet and still gained weight... You can definitely get fat on real whole foods.. I'm an excellent cook/baker.. I can make you a carrot-nut bread with natural whole ingredients that will make you gain 10 pounds instantly... Especially when you top it with fresh whipped cream... and stay away from my homemade granola.. the highest calorie food EVER. (uh butter, oats, nuts, dried fruits.. sooo calorie dense)

OP, Do you use stevia.. there is minimally processed stevia out there or you could buy a plant and just use the leaves yourself. Beware of juicing too early on.. fresh raw juice is very hard on the stomach. I enjoy juicing and was told to wait 6 weeks before reintroducing.

planning on sticking to veggies that are mostly water; cucumber, romaine, a pear or apple. other veggies/fruit can come later.

I am totally into clean eating and absolutely hate artificial sweeteners and think they are horrible for you, but I have been putting up with them for the pre op diet but now that I am sleeved I would like to switch to using just a tiny amount of honey instead... Has anyone tried this???

Do you like the coconut crystal? I cook a lot of Thai so I have palm sugar in my pantry. I was just reading up on the health benefits.

tastes like brown sugar. its just expensive, so i'm saving it for coffee and tea. what is the GI of palm sugar?

Palm sugar is the same as coconut sugar. It's very cheap from Asian stores but it comes in a solid form. It's not crystallized like the coconut sugar. It's about a dollar a brick.

i dont think they are the same product. they might both come from coconut palm sap. one is dehydrated sap, the other is more processed. i think you are talking about jaggery, right?

Wikipedia is incorrect. Palm sugar is made from coconut palm. It used to be made from palmyra palm. Not anymore. The ingredients on my palm sugar reads coconut palm. Read this link:http://www.templeofthai.com/food/flour_sugar/coconutpalmsugar-3610001105.php

Whatever it is, you can get coconut palm from Asian grocery stores for a fraction of the cost of the crystallized version.

we dont eat any artifical sweeteners or flavorings or dyes in our home. i am concerned that so much stuff on my first post op diet plan are "sugar free" processed products. i have bought hemp Protein powder... its pretty minimally processed. i plan on making and storing homemade bone broth (chicken and beef). we get milk right from the farmer' date=' and i have found a brand of plain greek yogurt i like. i also plan on juicing cucumber, romaine, apples, pears, etc. anything low sugar.

My doc told me juicing was too many calories. Your doc may view it differently. We juice so we hoped it was ok.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
