replacement hamburger helper!

Recommended Posts

So i used to be obsessed with beef stroganoff hamburger helper so i was playing around and found a decent replacement!

take 1 lb of 90% lean ground beef and brown it.

add 1 cup of peas and 1/2 a bag of baby spinach and sautee it until spinach is cooked.

then mix 98% fat free cream of mushroom Soup w/ 1/4 cup of skim milk and mix until thinned. Add the soup to the other ingredients and simmer together for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it thicken and it tastes amazing! it's all the tastes of hamburger helper with minimal fat and no pasta!

you can season to taste

Thanks for the recipe. I have been trying lots of new recipes too trying to eat better and also keep eating things that taste good. I keep up with all of my calories etc on My Fitness Pal and I was suprised that alot of the recipes on the major websites that i have tried are already on there calculated for me. That has been nice. I have been playing around with lots of new veggie recipes and have enjoyed making Cauliflower Crust pizza (it was really yummy), roasted brussel sprouts, stuffed mushrooms etc. Who knew I could eat tasty stuff and still lose weight and consider myself as eating healthy. I will try this recipe next week after I head to the store. Thanks for the recipe!

Just my personal preference, I always, even before surgery, drain the oil from ground beef. I also rinse it with hot Water, just to get rid of the fat.

Ditto that cuz the grease is just gross!

I have a severe mushroom allergy, and I make some similar. I use the brown gravy packets (the powder that you mix with Water and boil) and then a good tablespoon of sour cream. It makes perfect stroganoff. Also if you don't want to use ground beef, go to the deli and get some sliced roast beef, just ask them to slice it a little thick. :) If you really love the mushrooms you can add canned mushrooms my dad does, and loves it that way.

Sooo good. Thanks for sharing. I added a little garlic powder and a teaspoon of Worcester sauce, as I always put that in my old recipe.

It works with sliced deli turkey too, I use the jar of turkey gravy, and serve it with mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
