Soft foods one week post op?

Recommended Posts

So the Dr. says I can move on to soft foods tomorrow, the NUT says I should try to wait another week before i move on. I tried a half of a teaspoon of Greek yogurt earlier. It tasted sooo good but I cramped bad afterwards. Now I'm a little scared of moving on to soft foods tomorrow but I'm so bored with broth and Jello and freeze pops.

Did anyone else move on to soft foods just one week out?

I went to soft foods after 2 weeks, but day 2 post op was on full liquids, which includes Protein Shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese and cream Soups (campbell's 98% fat free stuff). Everyone seems to get different advice from their surgical team. But going to soft food (like chicken and tuna) after 1 week seems a little soon.

I started soft foods on week 2; i started with a small portion of mashed potatoes (dinner), a scrambled egg (breakfast), and a laughing cow cheese wedge and Tomato bisque Soup (lunch).

Yeah sorry I guess I should say mushy foods? Like yogurt, mashed potatoes, etc. dr says yes and nut says no I should wait if I can. By the cramping earlier from the yogurt I'm guessing in probably not ready :(

<cough>week and two days</cough>

We were running errands, the wife was hungry, and i figured i could get something soft where we went. I got chili without any of the available fixins. i only ate a few spoonfuls and took the rest home. my tummy made all kinds of noises but after half an hour I still hadn't thrown up. i started trying other soft foods after that.

if you don't tolerate something today, try again in a week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
