I am in the same boat as bird mad girl. My VSG is Aug 1. I am consumed with pain management, recovery time, returning to work and whether on not i should tell my co- workers. I only have 7 day off after surgery and hope I can return to work.

Hi everyone :) I just had a consultation on June 12th and I am scheduled to get sleeved on Aug 8th already! I guess I'm scared because it's happening so fast ! I have a whole host of medical problems and just hope and pray for a better quality of life :)

Good luck with everything. You are definitely making the right choice. Don't let everyone else bring you down. When you loose all the weight and your healthier they'll be happy.

I am scheduled for August 1, pending passing my stress test. I was 269 at surgeons office. He told me to lose 10 lbs get a stress test and he would schedule me. This morning the total weight loss is 9 lbs so I'm getting there. My stomach already has butterflies. My husband and two friends I've told are very, very supportive. Thinking the stress test is scaring me more than anything.

We can all tell you to relax but only you can do it. Stay busy and focus on being prepared for each of the things you are worried about:

Complications with PATS- means you have something to fix so you will be at your healthiest for surgery.

Post op pain- if it happens, lots of posts here about how to deal with it. Your dr is the expert on it

What will people say? Practice what you want to say and to whom if anyone. Think of the worst things they can say and have your responses ready.

You can do this!

Awesome!!! Good for you! It will be the best thing you've ever done for yourself! You know I don't have much experience in family being unsupportive but I will say, no one truly understands what you are going through unless you are "one of us"! My family is supportive but it's been a long educational process & no one understands me unless they are in my shoes! You have us girl! Good Luck & God Bless!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
