Protein shakes make me HEAVE/nausea

Recommended Posts

ever since the pre op diet and the first days post op I have become sickened/disgusted with the Premier Protein shakes from Sams club costco and I just cant stand it and have a horrible aversion to them!

I would love some advice as to what to do!

I am drinking Isopure drinks from Vitamin Shoppe 20 oz with 40 grams of Protein its kinda like a gatorade with lots of protein in it.

I think the milky ness and Vitamins in the Protein Drink are making me feel grossed out!

So what is working for you!?

Advice, thoughts?

I didn't like the Isopure. I felt like it had a "cheesy" background smell/flavor. So far, my 2 favorite Protein supplements are the Syntrax Nectars Roadside Lemonade flavor (mix 1 scoop or packet with 16 oz Water makes it most palatable for me, most juice-like) and the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup flavored Protein powder. I can't tell you how much money I have spent on Protein supplements trying to find ones that don't make me want to "technicolor yawn" all over the place. I am so thankful to the companies that have single serve pouches... I have bought 2 full tubs (at about $50 a pop) from companies that I expected to produce a superior product and they were really horrible.

Good luck!

unjury products are at www.unjury.com Most of them are reasonably palatable. Even their vanilla isn't terrible (why oh why is vanilla sooo hard to get right???), though I haven't found a vanilla that is actually good.

BJs Bariatrics www.bjsbariatrics.com has a sampler pack for the Syntrax Nectars that is only about $15 for 11? packets of flavors you get to choose. They try to make shipping as reasonable as possible. I prefer the fruit juice flavors to the sweets personally. I really did not like the apple flavor in particular, though.

I found the Unjury chocolate splendor to be too sweet. I would have rather had it with 12 or 16 oz of milk instead of 8. I haven't tried the classic chocolate yet. I imagine I will prefer that to the splendor. But, who knows which I will prefer if mixed with Water instead?

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
