I've only had my CPAP for five days, I have the small mask with the under the nostril pillows. It is causing dry mouth. Is this normal? I am waking up more with dry mouth than I ever did from sleep apnea.

It was normal for me to get dry mouth when I first started using my CPAP. It went away for the most part. I occasionally get dry mouth, but only once every couple of weeks.

If possible, you may want to boost the humidifier up to add more moisture to the air your machine is generating. I can adjust the humidifier on mine, but not the air pressure.

Thanks. I have my humidifier up to 6 which is as high as it will go. I'll just hang in there and hope it goes away as yours did.

I've been using the bipap for 9 years. Tried the nose with pillow but I'm a mouth breather, so had to wear two types of head gear...one to hold my mouth closed. Hated it so went back to the full mask. I had surgery in Nov. and have lost 75 pounds so hope at my 9 month checkup I can get signed up for a sleep study to see if I can get rid of it. May have to wait longer though according to my doctors. Good luck with it. Do you have humidifier attached to machine?? Carol

My machine comes with a heated hose so I can get warmer air through my nose mask and my nose doesn't dry out as much. But dry mouth was because I'd fall asleep and my mouth drooped open and was breathing through my mouth. Now I have a chin strap to keep my mouth closed and hate it, but hate the claustrophobic feeling of the full face mask more!

I can't sleep with my mouth open. The noise the air makes through my mouth wakes me up. Last night was better, so maybe it will get better with time. I am happy with just the pillows under my nostrils. No clostrophobia and easy to sleep on my side. Thanks everyone for the help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
