newbie here! 3 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Im 23 and just decided to change my life. On june 29 2013 I had my surgery. My highest weight was 230 and ive been obese since I was about 8 years old. My biggest problem was always my arms. They were morbidly obese compared to thw rest of my body and getting ridiculed by kids was a def punch to my confidence. Growing up I could never use a short sleeve shirt and that was pretty much my main issue. My body was some what okay in weight. I was a 9/10 til I met my best friend when I was 16' she was going thru a rough time and I was there to console her but I got stuck with her eating habits. In a year I went up to a size.16 and when I finally decided to do something.about it. I went down to a 14. My highest weight has always been 230 but I could never go below 215. My nutritionist said it was because I ate too littlw. I would be satisfied with one big meal a day. Big no no. I decided to do my surgery in venezuela. And the month I was here before my surgery I started at 227 and managed to lose 10 lbs just by eating healthy and three times a day. Ive.been three days post op I havent weighed by self yet but my family says they could aee a difference already. I take my drain out tomorrow. Minor pain. I have a concern tho my doc didnt tell me to take any Vitamins. I will ask him tomorrow but did anyone start vitamins later on?and also sis anyone have a problem with thwir arms like me? How were your results in them losing weight post surgery.

Btw I love this forum so much great advice and support!!!

Hmm good to know I was worried maybe I missed one of my doctors orders. Besides my surgeon I was dealing with like 3-5 different doctors. Hard to keep up... but thank you. :)

@nanabanana I too have the big arms. I was sleeved on April 17th and started at 230 and am now at 190. I haven't noticed my arms getting smaller but my stomach definitely has. I hope that my arms eventually start to shrink.

Good luck!! Oh & my surgeon told me to start chewable Vitamins as soon as I got home which was two days later. I did chewable for a month. Now I can swallow pills.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
