I just started with soft foods today, but... I've kinda decided not to. They don't give enough bang for the nutritional buck. YMMV.

It was allowed on my plan at 4 months. I don't eat bread, rice, or Pasta very often, and when I do, I keep it to the minimum, maybe one of them once or twice a week, or maybe less.

I was allowed "thin" type breads at 8 weeks. I still avoid most bread, Pasta, and rice, although I have eaten all of those things since surgery. It honestly doesn't appeal to me- the "doughy-ness" of the bread is a turn-off. Hard to explain...lol

my office is the same, no carbs till goal weight. no fruit, no rice, no bread, no pasta... not even Beans or potatoes. the puree stage will be interesting.

Hi!

I'm good. it's been very little drama. I have found that if I shift all my Protein Shake intake to the AM it helps with that weird bloating/over full feeling. if I drink them too late in the day i feel icky.

Are you excited Jessica? Did they tell you to bring your own shakes to the hospital. I was so glad I did, the hospital shakes are NASTY :P

Beyond excited! I never thought to bring my own. Sounds like a good idea! I'm a little nervous. My mom was supposed to be sleeved last Monday, but when they opened her up she had cirrhosis of the liver and has to be sewn back up! She was completely cut open too, not laparoscopic.

Oh no! poor thing! How is she doing now? You will be ok! When they did mine they found a cyst on my fallopian tube and had to call in a gyno consult while I was under but everything turned out to be ok. I felt really good after surgery, it was like blinking and it was over. my only bummer is I still can't really bend or lift anything but I am walking about totally fine. you will do great! Definitely bring your won shakes, you don't want to mess around with flavors when you are all layin' in that bed.

She's ok now, sore, but ok. I've had 2 csections so I hope the pain is similar or less lol!

I think it is less! I haven't had a c section BUT was with many friends who did and they couldn't walk for a few days. I literally stood up after surgery and walked myself to the bathroom right after I woke up. pain killers at home for only 2 days before bed and I only used them twice in the hospital before bed. i'm glad your mom is doing ok :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
