JerseyGirl68 1,172 Posted July 1, 2013 Congratulations on two excellent life choices! I cannot imagine how hard it is to give up smoking, and I applaud your commitment! Get strength from others here who have gone through the same thing. You can do it!!! 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
AthinnerAmy 8 Posted July 1, 2013 You can do this! If possible, try to get on a nicotine replacement. I used the patch when I quit my pack a day habit about 3 years ago. Stay away from people that are smoking and chew mint gum or sip peppermint tea. The first few weeks are hardest, but it get easier over time. I hardly think about smoking anymore and I LOVED to smoke, so I know the pain you're in. Stick it out, you'll be glad you did. 2 ProudGrammy and JerseyGirl68 reacted to this
JoiaRox 430 Posted July 1, 2013 Ask your doctor if s/he's okay with electronic cigarettes! I quit smoking using these, with my doctor's blessing ("vaped" in the hospital in my post-op recovery room) using liquid nicotine. Every doctor is different, but both my surgeon and PCP are quite happy with the switch. I'm 3.5 weeks post-op now and have had a textbook recovery, all while continuing my nicotine habit. 1 southernsoul reacted to this

I get to see mt doctor on july 22 but I need help cause I am getting pissed off cause I want to smoke so bad. I quit snuff in 2006 by using both the nicoderm patch AND a prescription of wellbutrin (lower dose) to take the edge off the nicotine fits. It really did help and I haven't touched nicotine since. southernsoul 773 Posted July 1, 2013 Like JoiaRox above, I also switched over to an e-cigarette vape. However, I also took Chantix, since I didn't want to continue indefinitely on the vape. I showed the rechargeable, refillable vape to my surgeon & he was OK with it as a substitute. I didn't need to finish out the second (continuing) pack of Chantix for month 2, and I found myself needing/wanting the vape less and less. I continued to use it randomly for a few weeks, but ultimately stopped using it. Good luck to you!
ashleio84 6 Posted July 1, 2013 Thank you everyone. I just bought the blu e cig so it should be here in a week but I got the one with no nicotine. So I ended up picking up a cig cause I have a very stressful job. So once my e cig comes in I cant wait until I can stop
JoiaRox 430 Posted July 1, 2013 Most gas stations, Wal-Mart, etc. all sell e-cigs (Blu and nJoy, to name a couple of brands) - go buy one now! No excuses! 1 ashleio84 reacted to this

TV-Duhhh!!! 138 Posted July 1, 2013 I kept peppermint and Hall's cough drops... Any time I had an urge I'd take a mint and if I was having a stressful moment I was take a cough drop... May sound weird but it worked for me.

1sunnuri 77 Posted July 5, 2013 I know the feeling about smoking. What has helped me is the website whyquit.com. its free and very informative. When u feel the need to smoke just go to the site and read some of the testimonials. I hope this helps. Im stuggling with you. Just take it one day at a time.
