Full fat, low fat, or fat free?

Recommended Posts

I keep reading different opinions on whether or not to use full, low, or fat free...i hear if you choose low fat or fat free they just add more carbs to make up for it...i have found this to be true when i look at the lables...so what to do?? anyone with more information please tell me what to do...I want to make all the right decisions, but when there is so many conflicting reports, it is so confusing...ty

I use full fat. I would rather eat more natural foods and my NUT is adamant that I should not be counting calories.

I go with full fat because I eat so little that it is sometimes hard for me to get to my calorie target. I try to get to 1000 a day but usually get to 800-900. I track everything on my fitness pal.

I don't like processed foods so I try to eat organic and full fat. The less ingredients the food item has, the better and healthier. The only processed foods I eat are Protein Shakes and Quest bars. The quest bars are very addicting for me so I am cutting them out of my diet....... :P

If I have to choose between full fat or carbs (sugar/high fructose corn syrup), I go with fat. From my own experiences, I gain weight easily by eating sugar. My insulin levels go way up and my body packs on the weight. At least with fat, it takes more energy when my body converts fat to energy and my insulin levels stay normal.

I also go with full fat. I try to keep all processed and artificial ingredients to a minimum as well. I find that with the small amount i can eat the full fat foods help me reach calorie goals. I also feel much more satisfied if i eat a few bites of a full fat food rather than a low or no fat food. I'm 4 months out and my calorie goal is 800 a day, and i struggle to meet that. Just remember moderation to all things!!

I never worried about carbs, due to my physician, he didn't unless a patient wasn't losing weight. At the seminar the dietitian said she would not ask US to do something she doesn't do, so we were not told that we had to do FF, except skim milk. If someone couldn't do skim, then 1%. I can tell you when I got almost 2o lbs below his goal and needed to gain weight back, one suggestion my dietitian told me to try was go from skim to 2% for a while. I did, I regained what I needed to and then back to skim. My husband had a 95% blockage in his heart, he got a stent and the cardiac dietitian told us for him to eat/drink, FF or LF dairy products. We already did, so it wasn't a big deal.....we did cut out the amount of cheese, even though it was 2% cheese.....waaaay back. So this is what I have done, and it works for me. I know NOTHING about carbs, thank goodness I don't have to keep up with something else. I keep track of calories and protein!! Everyone has different thoughts on this, but I think my grandson's pediatrician made a good point when he went in for his 2 yr check up. "Take him off whole milk, nobody above the age of two needs to be on that stuff" LoL

I agree with everyone else and do full fat. Before surgery I never ate full fat products and well, I was fat! Full fat for me is more satisfying and doesn't leave me craving more.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
