Hi everyone my name is Abla I had my surgery last Monday June 24th it's been a week already and I still feel awful. I have terrible gas pain I try to walk as much as possible. But I'm always uncomfortable I can beryl drink anything. It feels really bad when I drink Water tea or eat broth so I just try to avoid it (I know it's bad!!) I can't even drink the Protein Shake I haven't found one

where I can tolerate the flavor I always throw up after a sip. Help!!!! Does it get better!!?? I went from enjoying eating And drinking to hating the thought of it!!

This is totally normal. You will feel like this for a while, but don't worry...it will get better and better with each passing day. I had buyers remorse for about two months...and then I started to love my sleeve. Now at almost two years post op I am completely in love with my sleeve. I see others eating WAY to much and it makes me sad for them. I can enjoy a normal sized meal and usually have left overs. I love it. Today I went out for sushi and I ate half of my meal for lunch and saved the second half for dinner. I feel like I get to have my cake and eat it too. The best part (besides getting skinny and healthy) is my grocery bill went from over a $1000 dollars a month to less then $400 a month and that is for a family of 5. I was the main culprits in having such a large grocery bill. My hubby calls me a cheap date now. When we used to go out for dinner I would usually order two meals....and now I order off of the child's menu (where it is allowed) if not...like I said..I take home leftovers. It will get better! Keep your head up! :)

I agree, 2 Gas-x strips very 4 hours really helped me. Make sure you are letting the broth cool to room temperature before trying to sip it. Did you mention tea? I was sleeved on June 26, 2013, I am only drinking sugar-free Clear Liquids and coconut Water. I am using coconut milk for my Protein Shake. That has really helped me improve. Good luck and I pray you feel better soon.

Hi there. Although there's are many on here who just fly through this and are back to work in a week or less feeling great, that's not the average experience, what your going through is, so don't let that discourage you. Before surgery I found the perfect shake and in fact had been using it for years . After the surgery I couldn't stand it. For a while my tastes changed, and that shake grossed me out. I too had nausea, pretty bad. My doctor gave me something for it, but it didn't take care of it. That lasted for quite awhile. And once I could get a small amount in, I quickly got sick of sweet tasting things. Jello, shakes all sweet. And broth grosses me out. I just wanted plain cream of wheat or plain mashed potatoes....something with no taste. It seemed like ages until my doctor gave me the okay. My point? Your not alone, and this period will pass. Your body has gone through a lot and is working hard for you to heal itself. That is progress! If you have concerns, call your doctor. That said, your experience sounds a lot like mine in the beginning . Hang in there, it passes.....and welcome to this new chapter of your life!

@ aaa183, I was sleeved on 6/18, and the first week was rough for me as far as being depressed. I had buyer's remorse and would burst out in tears at any given moment. I was also upset that this surgery would only complicate things as far as being susceptible to new illnesses. Thankfully, I haven't experienced any pain, nausea, or any other complications. It does get easier day by day. As far as the gas, I would suggest walking or doing housework, anything to stay moving. I'm am happy that I finally did something for myself, and the 31 lbs, I've lost in two weeks is just an added bonus.

I was sleeved 2/12. It does et better. I struggled with pain in my incisions for a long time. I couldn't sleep well with the pain, and I was walking around hunched over like an old lady. I was depressed and often cried, especially when I read on here that everyone was up and at em' by their second or third week. But let me tell you, it gets better and then some. I would go through all the pain again in a heartbeat. Just be patient!

I was sleeved on 6/25 and am having a hard time too. I just got my hydrocodone dose upped significantly and that is making all the difference for me. I was having horrible incision site pain. I let my zofran script run out, and discovered that I really do need it. DH is out getting that right now. I am not doing well on Protein at all. All of my protein stuff tastes horrible, but I'm trying a little more every day. As far as the sleeve itself goes, I don't have any problems. Everything I've tried has stayed down and I haven't felt uncomfortably full. It's just the stuff that goes with the actual surgical preocedure that is causing me problems.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
