How soon can you travel?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this question should be in pre or post-op.

I am getting sleeved in Mx on July 19th. I live in Seattle but am from NY. Would I be crazy to book a flight to NYC (for 2 weeks) three weeks after surgery? I want to go visit this summer (my dad is very elderly and my step father is quite sick) and would need to go before my daughter's school starts again in Sept.

Am I crazy to consider this? I really want to go.

Thank you for your thoughts on this.

As long as you have a way to get in touch with your doctor, why not? Be sure s/he knows you'll be out of town and unavailable for follow up appointments during that time. You may be a little sleepy, and will need to plan how you'll get your food with such limited options at that time in your recovery, but I could have gone!

We all recover differently of course but that being said I could have easily traveled to visit my family out east 3 weeks post op especially if you're staying with family so you can be prepared for your eating:)

I am only 5 days out and traveling by car for 6 hours tomorrow. Doctor said no problem as long as we stopped frequently to walk.

I flew from Germany to San Diego to have surgery in Mexico and back again just a few days later.

It's not a problem. If you fly, keep moving your legs, don't cross them, drink plenty of Water and get up as frequently as possible.

And definitely don't view travel as a reason to be sloppy about your food stage - stay on track because it's very important early out to heal completely and not skip ahead just because it's convenient.

Good luck,

~cheri

ahaha - don't cross my legs! I wish. I was making a mental list this morning of things that will be sooo much easier without the extra weight and crossing my legs, at all, was on the list (along with cutting toenails and tying laces).

As for staying on track, I will only be three weeks out so I will still be pretty restricted - stage 3 - I think. I figure if I can't stay on track for the first few weeks, I am not ready for this surgery.

Thank you for the advice, and, ps, we have the same surgeon!

Ah, thanks for the laugh, there. I could only cross my legs at the ankles before surgery! And I have to do it when I'm in the car or flying because I'm so dang short my feet don't reach the ground. I actually keep a footstool under the dining room table so my feet can rest on it when we eat meals or play games.

I should put a more recent post op in there, actually. That was around 1.5 years out and I'm going to hit 3 in a few weeks. I'm still all curves and tats, though, so I guess I won't have much to worry about. ;)

Dr. Aceves is AWESOME and you're going to love him and Dr. Campos. I had a great experience and I hope that you come back and can say the same. Stage three isn't so bad, so I think you'll be fine. If you dine out, browsing the menus online beforehand always helped me avoid the stress of deciding on a meal at the table.

Best of luck to you!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
