3 days post op and still no poop!

Recommended Posts

This may be a weird question but I'm three days post op and had tons of gas but still haven't passed a bowel. Anyone know when that will happen. I'm getting a little bit worried! :help:

It's different for everyone...I think I was 5 days post-op when I finally had a BM. You aren't really taking in anything solid so you won't get anything solid out. ;) I didn't get back into regular BMs until I started eating solid food.< /p>

Same with me, about 5 days. (For the record, I was far more excited about it than my husband was when I told him...hehe)

That's very normal after surgery. After each of my 2 c-sections it took several days. I don't even remember how long it was after my lap-band because I considered it normal and didn't pay attention.

I did a laxative as soon as I got home and it helps with the gas also. You don't want to be stopped up and then have gas pains on top of that.

This makes me feels so much better. I have had the gas but it hasn't been too bad....but it's nice when it comes out lol. I was thinking about adding some benefiber to my Protein Drinks so thanks for that suggestion. My doctor had me thinking it was going to happen the next day after surgery so when the two days passed I was getting scared. Thanks everyone!

I didn't have a movement for 8 days after surgery. I just don't think I was eating enough to move anything! And I am finding that I am really getting a lot more constipated than I ever was before I was banded. I have been so uncomfortable for the last few days, but now I feel about 5 pounds lighter if you know what I mean. I guess it's really important to get in a lot of fiber in one way or another.

I take benifiber daily and it helps me stay regular. Before the band I never had a problem but after the band you don't eat as much so it doesn't happen as often. I also took gas-x for my gas pains, per my Dr., it helped a lot.

when you do finally go don't be suprised if all you get is a little bit of mud butt. My doctor allowed me oatmeal - very milked down during the liquid stage since its fiber and keeps things moving, but its been 3 weeks and I still don't go like I did before the surgery.

I took some milk of magnesia after 2 days just to get myself regulated again. Even if I don't have as regular as I did, I still like to have my system cleared out and that was a great way to do it.

Water is the key for a poop from what I"ve heard...also I know this sounds weird but if you rub the tops of your upper thight it stimulates one into wanting to poop. I had a nurse tell me if my infant son was having problems go poo..to rub the upper parts of my sons thighs. I did it worked but I'm not sure if that information is gender specific. PS, sorry I still pretty medicated and know my grammar leaves much to be desired. I'm in Pain and Hungry and which leaves me in a lack of caring state. (s)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
