I'm having panic attacks stressing over not being able to get my Protein Shakes down. I'm 3 weeks post op. I've tried whey, isapure and nectur. Tried freezing them. Can't handle any of them. I'm burnt out on eggs and Beans from trying to get some Protein in. I've been told there's protein pills? I even bought some unflavored soy Protein Powder. That didn't mix well. Any ideas anyone? Plzzz help!!

chocolate splendor by Unjury. Order it online. Tastes like Nesquick and you can't taste the Protein like you can with the Nectars. It is fab, promise. It is the only one I can stomach

I mix mine with Water. I know, probably doesn't sound too appetizing, but I haven't attempted with milk yet. I did enjoy them pre-op with milk, though, but the flavors I had pre-op were not very tasty with water! Try that and see if that helps.

I will try it. Thank you!

Oh, and some of us are finding that we have lactose issues post-op. When you get it, mix with Water first and see what you think. I love it with Water, over ice. Let us know how it goes!

Try mixing with milk and ice (in a blender) and make a smoothie out of it. You can also look up recipes on making your own. Mine this morning was 1/2 tsp instant espresso, 2 tsp nonsweetened cocoa, scoop Protein powder (matrix milk chocolate), 6 oz milk, and 3 ice cubes. Another one is 1 tsp pb, 1/4 c. frozen banana, 6 oz milk, 3 ice cubes, 1 scoop Protein powder, or I have done unsweetened frozen strawberries (1/4 c.), milk, protein powder, ice, etc ...... I like making my own vs just mixing them straight up. I can imagine they are pretty nasty with Water but to each their own!

Also, try some Soups for your protein. The lowfat cream of chicken Soup (strained and mixed with milk) with a tbsp of nonfat dry milk (for extra protein) is super yummy.

I kept that in mine for the "early stages" of post op, so got Nectar's pink grapefruit, which would be a good flavor mixed with Water. Their strawberry mousse, not so much! LoL!

I like to blend mine also but add a while lot of ice! Also you can double up a little on your Protein if your worried about the amount you are getting. Add half a scoop of unflavored and it will boost your Protein amounts.

Try playing with the one you have. Add some extra Splenda, ice, maybe some vanilla flavoring, or some unsweetened coffee flavorings. If you have cash and carry or smart and final or whatever your local restaurant supply type store they have a whole isle of flavorings.

Relax your palate will get used to it, you just have to keep trying ones until you find one you can halfway deal with.

Good luck!

I really really like the GNC Pro Performance AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 Protein powder (cookies and cream my fav). 4 oz has 20g of protein and its good.

I find that it is the smell of the Protein that puts me off more than the taste. Lifting the glass to my mouth and getting a whiff of the protein each time got to be too muc for me. Now i drink my shake out of a travel coffee mug with lid so I can't smell it. If I blend it, I eat it with a spoon. This helps me keep the amount of each bite/sip small and helps me with the smell issue.

like others have said, blending with ice helps, plus using milk of some sort instead of water...also, I can confirm that the chocolate Splendor by Unjury is good...I also like Peanut Butter so I add PB2 powder to a lot of my shakes...good luck

I love the nectar sweets in vanilla bean torte, chocolate truffle, and double stuffed cookie. I mixed them with Water to save calories, but recently I switched to half unsweetened almond milk and half Water. Super delicious and satisfying! I wanted to use something that was lo-cal and lactose free, since lactose intolerance after the surgery is a possibility.

Also, unjury strawberry sorbet is very good.....not overly sweet and it has kind of a tang like a real strawberry would.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
