jenjen 0 Posted December 31, 2006 Hi everyone, I sort of lurked around a little before signing up, but decided today would be the day I'd sign up and finally introduce myself. I'm Jen, married to DH Greg, and we have one son (4 years old). I've been overweight most of my life, but really started to gain alot about 11 years ago. I've done several diets and lost weight only to gain that and then some back (as most here I'm sure can relate). Last year, my Dad was on the verge of a heart attack and had to be rushed in for surgery to place a stent. Then my Uncle (Dad's brother) passed away at Christmas due to heart problems. Not to mention my Dad found out he is a diabetic last year. So all of this has really scared me into action. I'll be 30 in a year and a half and I don't want to see another 10 years go by and be as unhealthy as I am now. I've already contacted my insurance company (BCBS of MN) and they will cover the surgery if I have 1 year of documented weight programs and a BMI of 40. Well, I don't have the 1 year of documented programs. I've always tired the fad diets. Well, I've made this long enough. I look forward to talking to everyone and learning more about how this new way of life works.

skinnymom 2 Posted December 31, 2006 I just had the Lap Band this past Thursday and had t covered by BCBS. If you have any co-Morbid factors like thyroid disease, diabetes (or borderline diabetes), acid reflux or others, then you dont need the one yea. Find out - maybe you can have it sooner. Ididnt have the year long weight and my BMI was under 40. Since I had some of the co-morbid actors, I didnt have to wait. Hope this is helpful and good luck!
