so many of you reccomend a small firm pillow. i understand why, but what kind of pillow? i can't really picture it? a couch cushion? travel neck pillow? i've also heard Teddy Bear. is there a special kind, or can i just grab a stuffed animal off my daughter's bed?

Any kind of pillow/stuffed animal will work, really, as long as you can hold it firmly against your tummy - people use it to "secure" themselves, especially while being driven home. With an hour drive from my hospital, I bought a fuzzy pink, square throw pillow to use...and really only used it to lay my head on in the hospital. :) I felt pretty!!

The pillow helps also if and when you cough. You pull the pillow into yourself. It holds your stomach firm so the muscles don't move as much. When I had fibroids remove I used one. Works great, it's best to have a pillow with you.

I used a pillow pet !!! It was fun and comfortable. I used it to prop up my IV hand and under my shoulder at other times. I got cold easily in the beginning so I placed on too my stomach as well.

That's an idea Denn. Then I could give it to my daughter afterwards (she's very anti surgery -she is afraid I will die)! Maybe I will let her pick it out.

I was shopping with my nine year old daughter and remembered to look for a small pillow. She asked why i needed such a small pillow. So i explained. She replied "mommy, you can take Rosie with you she always makes me feel better". I smiled and left the pillow behind. Rosie is her stuffed Teddy Bear that she has slept with since she was two.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
