Less than a week post op, how are you doing?

Recommended Posts

I feel pretty good pain-wise. Sitting up I'm still a bit sore, but it's getting better by the hour. Sometimes I feel like I am hungry, but a sip of Water or Isopure makes that go away. I can take normal size sips of water, which surprises me as I am only 5 days post op. If I drink too much (about 3 normal sips) I get some air bubbles, then about 20 seconds later I'm good to take another sip. Is that weird?

I am the same way. I have always loved water; pure ice cold Water. After surgery it was not any differen't. In face I think I'm more in love with water; I sip all day. The hardes challange is not being able to "gujp" anymore. I sip all day long; if it gets to warm I have to put more ice in it. I dion't think I can drink enough; I too was worried that I'm "over watering myself" but Doc and Nurse said I'm good. I was relived because I thought I was doing something really wrong. I am craving Soups like mad too; Tomato, cream of broccoli, and cream of mushroom. I can eat two can's a day and be very satisfied.

What did he say? My doc and nurses were always telling me to drink more and more! They told me that like 10 times a day. At that point I was still a bit skiddish to put anything in my body besides pain meds ;-]

My surgeon and Nurse both said the same thing that drinking more is always good. My surgeron was astonished that only after waking up from surgery I wanted and ice cold cup of Water, and drank it down w/out throwing up. I garbbled up my small and meak liquid tray that night too; plus half my Protein Shake in the AM. My advice was that I drink as much as I feel comfortable with and slowly start adding the protein; not meeting the Protein goals all at once but gradually.

I was not supposed to have cream Soups only a week out, but my Surgeon called me back and was still astonished at the progress I have made. I started with Tomatoe Soup for lunch yesterday, had a can of cream of broccoli for dinner. Today, I took my mom to lunch; my first lunch out since I had my surgery. I had a small bowell of cream of broccoli from Ruby Tuesday's; it was awesome. For dinner tonight I had a can of cream of mushroom; it was amazing.

I just took a couple good size drinks, borderline gulps and no issues. A cpl gas bubbles came up, but that's about it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
