Anyone want to add any info on Dr. Illan that they would like to share? I'm looking into possibly having my surgery with him. It will more than likely be him or Dr. Garcia. I thought I had my mind made up but then I was messaged about Dr. Illan having the special on the gastric sleeve, and I'm struggling to come up with the money. Any little bit helps, right??? :) I just feel like I'm going back to square one with the researching yet once again.

I did TONS of research too and had it down to Dr. Kelly and Dr. Illan (Illan was Kelly's assistant surgeon for years and a highly respected surgeon in his own right). I also knew I wanted to have the procedure at florence rather than Mi Doctor and stay at the Lucerna. Then the folks here started the summer special with Illan and that sealed it for me. My surgery is July 13th and I'd be happy to share my experience with you when I get back. What date range are you looking at?

You may also try searching "Dr. Fraijo" (same person - Mexicans have many surnames) here and on obesityhelp.com

I LOVE LOVE LOVE HIM! I posted all about my trip back in March. I have not had ANY issues and would pick him again in a heartbeat! My husband will be going to him soon! Trust me he didn't even like the idea of me going to MX for surgery so this is BIG LOL!!

Are you looking for specific info? There are several of us that are his patients that post here periodically. Don't hesitate to ask or PM, if you are looking for more information!

I am a huge fan of Dr. Illan and his coordinator, Omar. I had my surgery at the end of March and couldn't be happier with my results. I'm down 50 lbs, went from a 40 BMI to a 34 BMI, have lost approx 10 inches in my waist and 8 in my hips. I've lost over 50% of my excess body weight...not bad for 94 days post-op! Dr. Illan made me feel like I was his first priority, from the time I first contacted him, until I left TJ. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat...and am currently trying to convince my sister to see him for the sleeve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
