Questions for some post opps..

Recommended Posts

I tend to get very nauseous after surgery. I let my anesthesiologist know. I got a patch behind my ear and anti-nausea meds pumped into my IV so I actually had no nausea afterwards. The only thing that bothered me the most was the gas pain. It was very intense for me that they gave me a shot of morphine to calm the pain down.

Good luck on your surgery!! Many good vibes being sent your way!

I was sleeved on 6/25.

1. I had severe nausea. They could not get it under control with zofran. phenegrin, reglan, repeat. I threw up 4 or 5 times. it kept me from walking because I couldn't get up without throwing up. Throwing up didn't hurt as much as you would think, maybe because I still had so many drugs from the surgery in me. Finally they prescribed me something different (started with a p I think and ended with a zole) and that took care of the nausea. Since then I've taken zofran as needed.

2. I have a 14 moth old and there is no way I could take care of him by myself. My surgeon said that by a week out most people are self sufficient, but shouldn't be caring for a small child by themselves. I can't imagine doing it myself for another week or so. You should know I am a wimp when it comes to pain, but still I think it's best to have people lined up to help.

3. I believe I can bathe at 4 weeks out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
