Probably. Why don't you ask that question of your doctor?

Yes, that will kill you......................seriously, No time like the present to start tackling the head hunger issues...you don't NEED rice, you WANT rice, and being able to effectively tell yourself "no" and move on is an important step you will need to repeat ad naseum in the coming weeks, months and years.

I am not as militant as some in their view on simple carbs like rice, however, that soon after surgery, that really is a bad choice...little pieces of rice near your staple line is just an unnecessary risk.

Rice is said to be especially hard on the sleeve. I wouldn't go there at only 10 days out. Can you have eggs yet? if so, go have a scrambled egg with hot sauce.. if you aren't allowed eggs yet, then have some chicken broth with hot sauce in it.

Not a good idea. Rice swells in the tummy and that's not a good idea on a new staple line. There are so many yummy things you can add hot sauce to. (I feel ya' there, I love hot!)

eggs, refried Beans with a little added Water to loosen them, well cooked spaghetti squash, even add a dash or two to a Soup that you can eat.

No rice. Conquer that.

I have Dr Nick too. He was pretty firm when telling me that I had to do Clear Liquids for 3 weeks post-op to allow the surgery to heal well and avoid problems or leaks.

Remember you cannot have Water with your meal so I dont know if hotsauce is considered a meal or a drink...why dont you put it on something with Protein like eggs or chicken. ..not sure whats allowed in your diet now

Lol...how much do you think she is going to consume? Don't get me wrong, I love me some hot sauce, but I never considered it any differently than any other condiment.

No eggs. If it doesn't run through a strainer it's not ok until after week 3.

As another Dr. Nicholson patient, follow what he says. I am now more than 16 weeks out and life is great. The liquid for the first 3 weeks is not fun but there is a purpose for it. It will be worth the wait!

I still have not tried rice or breads, it just doesn't seem worth it but I can eat anything else.

Hang in there, he told me several times it will be worth it and it is!

I don't know why you can't make a thin watery Soup and add hot sauce to it. Just blend it and make it thin and smooth enough to go through a strainer.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
