Hi Everyone I've been lurking for some time now

Recommended Posts

Hi. My name is Sean and I've been working toward getting banded for almost a year now. I've finally got the green light from BCBS after a tremendous amount of help from Kelley and Walter at ObesityLaw.com. Thank you so much Kelley!!! I guess it's time to come out of the shadows as I'm getting banded on 1-12-07! ;)

Thanks to everyone here too! I've had access to a great deal of knowledge and experience while lurking at this site and it's already been very useful as I prepare for this new journey. You've all been a big help to me already in making this decision. I can't believe it's finally going to happen. I'm excited and nervous at the same time but am very optimistic that this is the best choice for myself and my future well being. I'm sure I'll need more help and advice as I progress and I'm looking forward to "meeting" many kindred souls here. Thanks again, Sean

Welcome, Sean. You're getting banded the day I go in for my consultation. I, too, have lurked on this board for quite awhile and the education has been priceless. As I write this, it just turned midnight and fireworks are going off like crazy for the new year. I just moved to this neighborhood this spring and it seems my new neighbors aren't as heavily armed as the neighbors in my old neighborhood! Wonder why I moved?! Anyway, good luck on your journey and keep us posted on your success.

Sharon

Sean: I wish you all the best as you prepare to enter BandLand. While we males are clearly in the minority among the LBT faithful, we can all share our experiences, pre and post-op. I encourage you to read as many posts as you can in the time before your surgery and to setup a "ticker" in your signature. And have someone take pictures, so months or years from now, you can look back and say, "Getting banded was the smartest thing I ever did".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
