An observation: I know NO ONE that has wls...

Recommended Posts

So many posts I see on here talk about numerous people they know that have had some form of wls. I know no one. Their ears are all virgin when it comes to explanation. When I got my lapband, it was relatively a newer surgery. No one had ever heard of it. Now im needing to explain an even newer procedure. As soon as you say the words Weightloss Surgery, they immediately go to bypass in their mind. Everyone know someone who's known someone that it either didn't work for or died from it.

Great. Im pretty open about my surgery (I told anyone who would listen about my lapband) but Im getting kinda tired of drawing a diagram in their minds. And trying to tell them the difference between it and bypass.

Guess I shoulda kept my big mouth shut from the beginning

Yep, I know what you mean. That's why I have only mentioned it to my family and then I had to do a tutorial which ultimately meant nothing..... I can't imagine having to explain revision.

You can just stop now if you want: don't tell anyone new and if the subject comes up, say you have the situation in hand, you'll be fine, blah blah, etc.

Best of luck!

I'll explain it a million times if it means that WLS (and, specifically, the sleeve) can be understood as a TOOL to help me in my lifelong journey for health and wellness.

"Your stomach is the size of a football. Mine's the size of a banana..."

I've been lucky not to encounter negativity (to my face anyway)...perhaps it's the former teacher in me? I'm not ashamed of who I am, how big I am (or not), the tool I chose to utilize, etc. Negativity is usually bred from ignorance - ain't no one got time for that.

I have only told a few people...most of my family does not even know that I had it done......It was supposed to be a hop, skip and a jump and then I would be on my way.....but after having difficulties and being in the hospital 5 months...It was hard to keep it a secret...

I flubbed the surgery by skipping the actual surgery and talking about some of the things that went wrong after...This happening after minor stomach surgery...That is what I say and no more.....

Have heard 3 times that I took the easy way out from professioal people who should know better....Can't imagine what my family and some friends would say......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
