Hi. I was sleeved back in April. First week home I had some discomfort, moved a little slower, and slept a lot. Bending down for me had to be done slowly as my stomach near my biggest incision was sore. I could get up and get things for myself it was just nice to have help. I was told no steps for 2 weeks so I didn't. Also-I used a shower chair and toilet seat lifter for support. After first 2 days home I was doing my shower on my own.

My wife took two days off - the day of surgery and the day after and I was on my own after that and did well.

We live in a two story home and I was told it would be okay to walk the steps as I needed to.

I was hurting pretty good the 1st week. I didn't need help getting around, but I did need my friend to drive over to the pharmacy for me and to the store for some popsicles. I wouldn't have been able to drive.

I didn't feel like eating anything other than sugar free popsicles, so as long as my supply held out, I didn't need anything else.

By day 7, I was able to drive myself around and had no trouble going back to work on day 10.

Everyone's different. My wife took off the entire 2 weeks with me. I didn't need it. I hated the fact I had to be wheeled out of the damn hospital when I left. I didn't have any issues with moving around or walking. I had slight soreness and such, but nothing major. Some people need the help, others do fine with minimal help. My wife made me let her do everything for me, wouldn't let me do anything on my own, but I still fought her for my independence.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the input. Surgery is a week from tomorrow and I'm starting to get nervous.

Best to you. Dont let your nerves get the best of you. I literally remember rolling into the operating room and waking up in recovery. Seemed like 5 minutes!

I was in a ton of pain but that is because I had hernia repair. I slept in my recliner for a while. Getting down Protein was hard for me. I could stand the taste of several different brands even though I could drink them before hand.

I would suggest getting everything ready at home before surgery. Get several brands of Protein. If you are an ice person, get some before hand and have it ready. Ask if you will have prescriptions going home and if you can get them ahead of time.

good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
