My surgery was on 4/3/13 so I am almost 3 months out. I am trying so hard to keep carbs at 40 grams a day but am finding it so difficult. For what it is worth, I started walking 3 miles every day about 2 weeks ago. Even with exercise do we still need to keep carbs at 40 grams for the whole day? My calorie intake ranges from 700-900 a day. Iv'e lost 52 pounds since surgery. I am sure i would have lost more so far if I kept the carbs at 40. I am such a picky eater too. The only Protein I really eat is chicken and the shake, (30grams - Premier Protein shake) if I can choke it down.

You have to have the Protein so that you'll lose fat - not muscle, not all carbs are the same - complex carbs, like refried Beans, black beans or fruit - you may want to see your NUT to tweak, your diet in relation to exercise

I know my nutritionist upped my carbs bc of all the exercise I do. I don't think everyone's body is created the same...some function better with more carbs and that's okay.

I would make a nut appt. and in the mean time go up to 80 or so and see the results. We have these sleeves forever so you can experiment some.

Good luck!

My nutritionist's advice: Eat as few carbs as you can, stomach as much Protein as you can (my goal is 60-80 grams a day). Drink the Protein shakes if you have to.

There are ways to make meat or dairy Protein more interesting. I am still on purées but made a pot roast, add a tsp of pesto or some salsa to chicken and eat hummus, tofu, greek yogurt, tuna, eggs, etc to break up the monotony. All these foods are high in protein.

The more carbs you consume the harder it will be to lose weight over time. You can introduce cooked vegetables and some fruit (beware of the sugar) for variety but you should only be consuming starches and simple carbs in strict moderation.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
